Do you have the red rings of death? I did a search and found a youtube video of a guy with the same problem. He said if he tapped the front the tray and it unjammed it. Also check this out...

my just like that. some how its jammed.
and its not under warranty already, its been long time. but anyone know how long is the warranty? if is a year its been passed.
Probably passed. Does the mechanism grind at all, or is the disc just stuck? I would try cracking that thing open. It's not too hard. I swapped the gut out of a launce system to a Halo 3 version without much hassle. I would advise against sending it to microsoft if you take really good care of your stuff. They like sending out refurbished units in place of yours.

Was on a PS3 forum and searched the XBOX 360 side and someone mentioned this disc tray problem being almost as common as the RROD. They said its a problem with the magnets slipping and is usually common with the early editions of the 360. One person had 3 days left on their warranty and had this same issue. They called up MS and MS didn't ask for a receipt or questioned their warranty. Might want to call up MS and see if there's anything you can do that will actually fix it, since sending it in will get you a refurbished one.

I dont have a 360 but in one youtube video (think its the one I posted) the guy took the faceplate off and was able to fit a paperclip in there and thats what opened the disc tray.
1. do you NOT care about the disc in there?
2. does the whole machine still work fine?
3. do you have $40?
if yes to all, buy the HD DVD add-on for like $40 these days. they function just like the internal one, but will play HD DVDs as well...
