Anyone know anything about Portland OR?
So the wife and I kicked around the idea of moving up there a few years ago mainly to fulfill our selfish beer needs. Now we are thinking about it again based off of practicality and well. . . still the beer.
What I know. Pros: No sales tax, low crime rate, higher average household income, lower average cost of living, beautiful houses for 400k?!, beautiful scenery, same weather as the bay area, voodoo doughnut and microbreweries.
Cons: Homeless, hippies/hipsters, no hockey or football team!
Anyone know of anything about the Portland area? Work wise? We know she could get a job easily as an apartment property manager, I am curious if theres a lot of BMW's to work on? Education (we have a new born)? Subaru scene? Any basic need to knows?
Thanks!

I love Portland, almost moved there more than once.
Portland International Raceway should provide plenty of broken BMW's
But the car market isn't like here, def more trucks and fewer Euro cars. Keep in mind they salt the roads up there.
The real trick is to live in Vancouver Washington (5-min across the bridge) where there is no property tax, and work/shop in Portland where there is no sales tax

I have never lived there, only visited briefly once but I have learned a lot from a television documentary series about Portland. Check it out:

I suggest a home in the Mtns. If your in the city be prepared to share it with meth heads, homeless run away's, filthy Hipsters & drug dealers.

Quite a few of my friends have moved up there in the past five years or so. You've already mentioned most of the positives including low housing prices and no sales tax. SLEEPERWRX is spot on though. The weather is NOT like the bay. RAIN for DAAAAAYS. If you can handle that then I'm sure it's pretty nice.
