Talking Anyone know any nice jazz clubs/bars in S.F.?

Hey , anyone have any recommendations for nice jazz clubs/bars in the City? I know there's Pearl's, but I wanted somewhere a bit more intimate feeling. Also, I know there's Yoshi's but it's far and expensive

I'm kinda sick of clubs that play booty busting bass music (rap, trance, etc.), and I don't care for pubs and "Americana" (ahem biker) bars. I just want somewhere that's relaxing and jazzy. Am I in the wrong time period, maybe the wrong country?

Thanks in advance!

Wink

Indian casinos have bars/lounges that usually have some pretty jazzy elevator music playing. Seriously though, I'd look for coffee shops not bars...much more likely to have live jazz.

Hmm, thanks for the info. Are coffee shops open that late though? And I'm not a big coffee guy either

Cafe Claude, Every thurs/fri/sat night. Good food too. Good wines. Just a small cafe

Pier 23 Cafe is pretty good and I've seen a couple cool jazz bands go off over there.

House of Shields right next to my office is a cool little bar that has live bands from time to time. Things almost 100 years old. Decent beers.

I highly recommend Cafe' Du Nord. Some of the best acts come through there. If you get the chance catch Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers. If you want a romantic place or just all around cool place for a date this is probably one of your best bets. Lavay will be there on the 9th. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING> this place gets my number one vote.

The Beat Lounge isn't bad either.
Club Deluxe in the haight is a hip little bar that plays a huge variety of live music.

but seriously. Besides Yoshi's and Pearl's, DeNord is the best. I'd go there over the other places actually.

Thanks guys!

Cafe DuNord, that's on Market in the Castro right? I've heard Lavay Smith and yeah they're good, but I was thinking more of a relaxing kind of jazz than swing
Oh, and uh where are Cafe Claude and House of Shields located?

Shields is off new Montgomery. Between Mission and Market. Across from the Palace Hotel. If you've ever seen the movie...The Game, it was filmed right there.

Claude is on the other side of market kinda by the galaria.

If you want slow chill out type of stuff you might want to look into these.

Boom Boom Room. It's off geary/fillmore. Friday they have some dope OLLLLD school jazz. Gonna be hoppin. If you want laid back I'd suggest Sat. Dr. Lonnie Smith is a legend and he'll definately put it down.

Or drop by the Bliss Bar for a martini and some cool tunes spun by live DJ's. Pick the right night and the right time cause the place packs out and some nights music is better than others. BOMB Martini's. I'd suggest a chocolate martini for the lady or the signature 24th Street Cosmo. You won't go wrong on either pick. Apple Martini is quite nice as well. Be aware that you WILL see a gay couple or three there. Some mind. Some don't. Just saying. Place is nice.

I live at that intersection... and actually don't know of any. Although, at that intersection there is a indie punk, brit, club called tongue and groove which is really popular.

Jazz at Pearl's is a really popular one that is pretty well known.. probably the most well known Jazz club in SF. It's in a 30's theme.

256 Columbus Ave (at Broadway)
San Francisco, CA 94133
(415) 291-8255
Open 7pm until 2am, Monday through Saturday

have fun!
