I had a rott that had to be put down young. I got her from my buddy when he went in the army. She had to be put down a couple weeks later. Got some crazy deal where she outgrew her organs. Nuts.
I'd love another Rotty.
Like I said mike... I'll check out my local spot on monday if you want. Hell if you really want me too, I'll pack up my isht right now and head over there.
Let me know.

I've flown someone to Dallas before for one of my little dogs for the wife so distance is not of any concern for me.
Yes Labradors and Retrievers are essentially the same but there is a large difference in looks between a full blown Lab and a full blown Retriever, I love the breed but would need a dog that doesn't look too similar to Thugs. I'll get another Retriever for sure down the line as Thugs was the best dog I have ever owned I just can't get one right now or it would not be fair to the dog as I would be drawing comparisons to a dog that quite simply could never be replaced!

How far would you be willing to go to find the new companion?
I got my Pharaoh Hound / Black Lab mix from Special Pets Rescue up in Clear Lake. I drove a ways to find my guy because he is a Very Rare breed in the U.S. However he was DEFINITELY worth the drive.

However, depending on how far you are willing to drive that might help to let you know about other shelters as well (example shelters up in Sacramento area might be farther than you're willing to go, but maybe not in which case you could potentially get some good recommendations for up that way or generally out of the East Bay).

We got both our dogs through poundpuppyrescue.org. They are in Palo Alto and are great people and rescue from all over the world.

Here is a link to Golden Gate Labrador Retriever of CA http://www.labrescue.org/index.html. I volunteer at the German Shepherd Rescue of Nor Cal, and they are great organizations and need the support. Check em out!
