Anyone here run really fat tires?
Kinda digging the really meaty tires and just wondering if there are people here that run then. Im talking about 50-60 height. Pics help as there are a lack of them on the web.
Any positives or negatives to running such a setup? I think about this everytime I hit a pothole on hwy17 in my 35 height tires. Its just a matter of time before a rim cracks..

Taller tires make it more likely to rub something, they're heavier, and the larger diameter, reduces acceleration, throws off the speedo, but increases top speed, gives more comfort because of more sidewall, and that's all I can think of right now.
I thought you meant wide meaty tires at first. Nothing wrong with some grippy width.

If you want more sidewall, just get a smaller wheel.

I'm 225/50 on stockers atm.. Hate it.. I couldn't imagine running that kind of profile on a larger rim as it would be pretty poor for gearing..
As for feel... I'm running on pretty stiff as hell coilovers.. The fat spongy tires gives this odd pitching feel.. You can feel the outside front tire collapse on corners - but they realllyy suck when you start applying power.. With substantially less sidewall I could easily power through lane changes.. Now when you apply throttle AND steering the entire car flops around like a giant flaccid.. well.. It's pretty terrible..

i saw some 235/45 federals on 17x9s i think. it looked pretty good. wanted to see if someone had 245-55s on 17s or 18s haha

bouncer you have any side shots? i was thinking about throwing some 55s on my stock rims when i replace someone elses used tires out to guage a feel for the look and handling.

I had a 50 sidewall on my 16'' stockers for snow, was fine. I wouldn't suggest running anything bigger than 45 on a 17" + rim. Mostly for the reasons Bouncer suggested.

thx man i checked out a lot of nasoic threads but most people seem to associate meaty/beefy tires with wide tires. ill check out the entire thread though.

235's on 9" wides? sounds pretty stretched to me. i have 245's on 8.5"s and that's as stretched as i am willing to go. and any wider, i'd need fender rolling. i have about 1/8" clearance right now or maybe even less...
if i was you i'd prob go 17" and put either 45's or 50's on there.
