Anyone here living with out their gallbladder?

My girlfriend had her gallbladder removed yesterday due to painful gall stones. She was doomed by her family as many on both sides of her family(mom and dad) have had gallstones and removed gallbladders and were not even over weight people.

I am just curious if there is anyone on here in this situation and curious about hiw it has effected your life.

Please share. PMs are OK too.

My mom had her gall bladder removed at an young age due to a stone too. It didn't really affect her life much besides that she can't produce enough stomach acid to digest food. she can't eat overly greasy or spicy food otherwise she'd get a stomachache.

yeah I had a big fat gall stone I passed about a year ago, Im glad I was able to pass it without getting the bladder out, your gall bladder makes an enzyme that helps break down excessive fat, which is important for people like us americans who typically like a high fat diet, if you get it removed you really have to be ontop of you diet since you will now store rather than digest much of the excess fat you eat, thats why people that get their gall bladders taken out and dont change their diet afterwards tend to bulk up pretty quickly
