Anyone have a stock STi axleback I can try?

I know this sounds weird, but I wanted to try and see what a stock STi axleback would be like on my car. This is a turning point for me as I said I would never get rid of my ScoobySport can... I also said I would never put my front plate on so now I know I should never say never. I never will again.

Anyway, I am not sure what exhaust I want to go with, and I don't really want to buy a pile of them and pick one. I love my ScoobySport but it attracts too much attention these days... Since an STi makes 300hp it should flow more than enough for my RS. I don't want to kill the sound completely though - I still want to hear something. I have a Borla header and plan to get a RT cat section and a custom midpipe, so I am thinking I should still be able to hear my car.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or even better an STi axleback I can borrow to try out? I can give a deposit or whatever if needed. Could also come to you, bolt it on, drive around the block and give it back. Just figured there would be someone out there with one sitting around gathering dust.

wombatsauce: dude, if you only made this post a few months ago, I would have let you, but now it's back on my car. You are, however, welcome to try it out at the expensive of your time; by this, I mean, jacking up my car, pulling exhaust off, jacking up your car, putting exhaust on, and then reversing the process. I believe you can ask Jeff, aka, Ipozestu, for his stock axle back. The 05 WRX axle back is the exact same, without the STi stamping. I believe his is sitting in the garage.

Oooh I had no idea they were the same. Nice. Can you still hear the exhaust at all with the stock system? I heard a Borla Hush and that was perfect but I am sure I cannot get an axleback... Mostly sure.

So okay then, this opens up to stock '05 + WRX axlebacks too then..

Is that really true? The stock 05 and 06 WRX axle back is the same exact thing as the STi axle back, minus the stamping? I've never heard that..

slvrsubywgn: without looking at the actual piping, but just the exhaust tip, I'm pretty sure they're exactly the same.

En3D: can you confirm?

I have high flow, and you don't really hear the exhaust, you just hear the turbo spool. It's pretty audible at high rpm. I like the sound of stock, it's stealthy to the untrained ear.

I went from stock-->Nur Spec-->TurboXS regular with full tbe-->Stock axleback mated to Stealthback. Stock exhaust FTW, you can hear the turbo and the engine without attracting all sorts of negative attention...

Well.. I have a ScoobySport, from what I understand it's an original H&S. Let me hear your stromung as I really like the idea of a dual tip. I have heard your car before, but it was a while ago...

And to confirm, I would just want to hear what it sounds like on my car, a trip around the block or if possible on the freeway up to hwy speed.

Let me know about the Stromung tho, if you are serious and it works out - I would be down this weekend some time. If I hear it on your car and it's OK then I wouldn't need to test it, just a swap would work. I may get a little emotional parting with the ScoobySport tho....

I had an axelback from a 04 sti on my 02 wrx for a while at one point. It sounded just like stock (practically silent) but just looked a whole lot cooler. (also the engine on my wrx at the time was stock). So sound wise you won't notice much of a difference from stock.

Sounds almost identical to the WRX stock exhaust - just a little deeper tone. You're welcome to swing by Davis and take it off my car and try it on yours, but you have it put it back on my car after you're done
