if you want longer wear and some wet traction, checkout the fk452s

i want something that will grip..at an auto-x and i plan on taking the car to a track day once. pass tires ive ran were michelin pilot sport ps2's and hankook rs z212's. both are great and sticky tires, but the michelin is over 200 a pop now, and the hankook doesnt last at all. i want at least 15k miles outta these tires, and its hard to believe that i will get that mileage outta the 615's especially since its going on the s2000, not the wrx

yea, those are super loud and i dont think theyre even in the max perf segment. arent they ultra high-po? definitely better tires around for the price. i used to like the way the tread looked too, but i dont anymore. too busy, and not really functional. go for the oldies but goodies. s03 f1 rt615 etc. even hankook rs2 would probably be a better choice, and cheaper.

but theyre discontinuing the s03's, and even then theyre expensive as hell. i think i might just go w/ the 615's then. can anyone honestly vouch for this tires rain grip, since i hear people saying that it is supposed to be far superior to the rt215 in the wet? i plan on driving on these through the winter in sacto

s03s are expensive unless you score a cheap set that dtt is blowing out right now, but for your size it would prob be expensive. as for rt615 wet handling, id assume it is better than the 215s but still not something youd wanna push too hard in the rain. any max performance should be ok if the weather holds above 40 on average. as long as you dont hit snow it should be fine with rt615s, id just watch out for hydroplaning just because of how the tire design is, looks a lot more geared for dry, but id say itll get you through a winter. hell, if you drive em right, you could take them to the snow even with fr. my friend did it with ps2s on his is300 on ice. scary, but it depends on your driving ability. just be careful is what id say. i think for what you appear to be going for, rt615 is a great choice for high performance low cost

Not all Max performance tires don't do well in the rain. Think of the S-03 or the Advan Neova... Supposed to tread water like crazy wasn't there a thread saying something like up to 8 gallons a minute?

oh no jeff, i wasnt saying that max perf. tires do bad in the rain. i was just wondering how the rt615 compared to the rt215, b/c ive heard that the rt215 was HORRIBLE in the wet, and the rt615 was a great improvement. i know the s03's r amazing in the rain. im sure u can concur

nah man, what im saying is of course some max perf tires are better in rain. but one thing that all max perf compounds have in common are their resistance to extremely low temps. a tire like s03 or rt615 will start to harden at lower temps like sub 40. so basically, they turn to glass because the rubber compound isnt made to be used in those temps. in this case, it wouldnt matter how well a tire channels water, its just not gonna grip very well at all. that being said, i think the concensus is that 615s are an improvement over 215s in the rain. the dry is supposed to be similar.
