remember: the early bird gets the worm!

dude, ya gotta leave pretty early!!!
it's gonna be nuts up there! i got a li'l late start yesterday leaving fr: my brother's in vallejo. after a pit stop in auburn around 9:15ish, the on-again, off-again slow-going started a bit after the truck chain check in applegate. the much-anticipated sugar bowl "parade" started at least a mile before the exit. i ended up passing it & driving to boreal & coming back down on westbound I-80. i figure i saved about 15 min or so. but wait...it gets better! by the time i got to the road to mt. judah, i (along w/ the other disgruntled folks behind me) am told that there is NO parking available.
now it's about a quarter to twelve, so i decide to go the "neighborhood dive bar" of north tahoe resorts, donner ski ranch. after fueling up on grub, i do a 1/2 day for 20 bucks! woohoo! powder abound! that place is so mellow it's cool. too bad the lifts are still the same ones in operation when boards were invented! it was a sweet three and a half hours, especially that 1st hour when they finally opened chair 3 on the backside. i actually laid 1st tracks on one of them runs!
i stayed the nite in reno, and was on the road to sugar bowl this morn 'bouts 8ish. pulled into my spot next to another 03 psm wgn like mine by 9:15! way better start than yesterday, esp since i was planning to take my last run @2:00. wow! whatta day! 2"-4" more inches of fresh overnite! visibility kinda sucked at the top of lincoln though!
damn...i'm babbling on. it was just some sick riding! lucky for all us powderhounds that the storm door's gonna be stuck open for the next week! i know there's another thread on here where folks were talking about heading over the next several days! you'll have a blast barring the traffic & crowds.

edit: here's that thread for tahoe this wknd if you haven't found it yourself yet.

does your lisense plate say something close to your name here? cause I saw a rex at C Jr. in warm springs with that lisense plate.

Either way...I'll be at bear on sunday....look for my white 04 wagon. Racks. Couple 3 guys with boards.

I'll probably park close to the upper ticket booth...I like to ride out to my car from kawalla at the end of the day.

Everyone be aware that the roads and some resorts may be closed tomorrow. My buddy just came back this morning and was stuck in North Lake for 2 days. He had to leave at 3am over HWY50 last night to get out. Most resorts up near Tahoe are still closed. Make sure to call or find out in other ways about the resorts being open tomorrow. Especially those wanting to go to Kirkwood. They do close the avalanche area all the time and you may get stuck up at the top. I did one time and we just went home after waiting 3 hours.

We are thinking about going to Bear tomorrow, since it wasn't hit as hard as Tahoe was. And there is supposevely a storm on its way.

Be careful up there. And I may see some of you tomorrow. But I won't be in my Sub'.

Been pretty burly up past arnold. Believe you me...I got pictures of a barried wrx to prove it from tuesday.

So come on up....I can show you some of my favorite lines. Been riding bear for 10 years.

I saw that wagon too....

no I have a white one. but I ended up not driving it. We took the suburban from arnold to bear cause my dad wanted to come with me and I didn't have the space for him.

We were in a white suburban with a tub on top. 4 guys. two with beards..haa.a we were parked right close to that silver wagon.

where were you riding yesterday?

I road primarily the back all day. Found some good snow on spyglass and some other little places.

I am hurting though........my brother met me at my girlfriends house around 11 sat. night. That's in san juan batista/ past gilroy. Then we picked up my **** friend in fremont and hit the road around 12:30-1. We got to arnold at 4:30. Slept til 7 and got up and boarded all day. From open to close....shoot past closed..when bear closed we took home run down into bearvalley. Then got some grub at the club and left after 10pm. I got to san juan batista to drop my brother off at like 2:30am. Then I had to wake up at 6am to make it to SF for work by 8:30..

BBBBUUUURLY. I have the fatest migrain..I am too old for this stuff anymore. Such a head ache.

So if anyone sees a dirty *** white wagon with a board on top in fremont today that's me.

On top of that I took a tumble yesterday. Was a lining to make it past tiger to spyglass and got a ripple I didn't see...did a double tumple and flipped over the out of bounds thing and into the powder....my dad skiis up and says......um...hey...you napping.

See you up sometime...I am up there nearly every weekend.

We road all over the mountain. It was only our second time there, so we were trying to figure out the best runs. We also went to the way back portion of the mountain. Talk about powder for days, steep hits, and much soreness on the back leg. 2 runs on the back portion of the mountain and my legs were done.

We rode until 3:30pm and then called it a day. Did you see the ambulance come through with its tank tracks at all 4 wheels, and then hear the helicopter air lifting someone out? You know someone tried to go big and got OWN3D!!!

Did they let you past chain control with your AVS'? Just wondering. I have Falken FK-451 Beta GR's on my car and I wonder if they would let me past. Didn't try yet.

i had those falken's on my old civic.....I must say I love those tires.

Not much fun in the snow.....well on roads with people on them anyways..haaa.

yeah there are some serious hideaways at bear. Drop me a line and I can give you some ideas next time you go up.

i heard the heli come in...I've seen that ambulance before or something similar but didn't see it.

bear's park sucks.....that's probably where they were. People get worked in there all the time. I couldn't tell you how many people I've seen carted out of there.

Either that or someone smacked a tree. shoot I smacked a couple...my wrist still hurts after one of them.

I saw the heli come in 4/5 times one day.

heli is only head injuries, life threatening or limb threatening...if you bust your arm they will send you down the hill. ouch.

Bear Valley was super sweet on Saturday. Clear skies and powder all over the place. Spent most of my time on the backside of the mountain on some blacks and blues. Friday was a different story. Really cold, snowing and a hella hard time leaving. Yokohama AVS db S2 suck really big in the snow, no traction at all. Just trying to leave the resort I had major tracktion issues. Clutch was fully engaged and the car was reving to 6K. Visibility in the snow was like 8ft but it was a fun drive, nothing like driftng. The Yokohamas sucked in the snow but in the rain they were pure gold. Stuck like crazy, I'm really happy with them, although next year I plan on getting dedicated snow tires if for going up to snow in conditions like this past week. Cann't wait to go boarding again, think I'm finally gonna get my own gear after this season. BTW saw lots of subies up in bear valley.
