Is there a clicking sound when you start up the computer? Either the SATA cable or the hard drive is dead. If there is a clicking sound then your hard drive is toast and you will need a new one.

Not clicking at all it just boots up and says no hard drive.
Before that it was on the blue login screen and I would type in my password and it said user profile not found and took me back to login screen. Then I powered down then powered back up and tried to run a recovery in the boot menu. And it ran then said unsuccessful. So I restarted it again and said no hard drive lol.

HDD could be failing mechanically.. My moms imac just went out after 6 years, surprised its still the same one that came from factory.. My PC had the same thing less than a month ago. Drive was about 4 years old..

sounds like your harddrive is starting to fail, at which point pull it and try to get all the data you want off it, or you've lost some data on the harddrive.. Leaning towards failing mechanically.

Do you need anything off the drive? That's a different kind of ball game if you do. I have a USB kit so you can pull the drive and plug it in like it was a USB drive (I'm sure more than a few people here have those). That will tell you if the drive is actually dead or if something else is wrong like corrupt/infected bios. I had a system I thought the bios battery died on and when I hooked it up via USB it said it was infected - cleaned and back in business. Can be a quick way to see if the drive is really dead/dying or retrieve data. Then my power supply died so I just scrapped the system lol.

I agree with what everybody else has to say and that the drive is slowly starting to die. I would avoid trying to boot it up. Unfortunately I am pretty far from your location so I won't be of much help.

Best of luck.

If you need, I have spare drives around and a clone system. I may be able to save all your data.

For the folks that don't know, I run my own consulting(IT) company.

Don't need anything recovered. Just need it back to normal. There were minimal pictures and movies on it. Nothing that can't be downloaded again.

Ok, well here is what I would suggest then, Looking up the spec's on that laptop...

It will support windows 7, so if you don't own a copy, here is what I would do.

1)Pick up a SSD hard drive, you can get a 128gig for under 110 bucks now.
2)Pickup a copy of windows 7 (unless you have one)
3)Install hard drive (instructions online)
4)Reinstall windows 7 (it will walk you thru it)
5)go to HP's website and download the drivers windows 7 could not find.

now you have a fast, "new" computer for under 200 bucks.

You have a corrupted boot sector most likely.

Buy this: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Newegg.com
