I've done alot of martial arts before, but never in the bay area. I'm waiting for a good muay thai place to open up down here. Gotta try something different...

In general if you can find a good place, it's an awesome experience. Some places just suck, so be careful before you sign-up for a long set of classes.

I practice Hapkido at The Hapkido Institute in the City (North Beach).

I love it - great combination of strike type movements from Tae Kwon Do, plus the grappling and groundfighting techniques of Judo and Jiujitsu. Not the mention the owner, Steve Menasche, is a really good guy.

If you want to give it a try, feel free to come to class with me some evening - he will often give a free couple of classes for a newbie to see if they are interested in Hapkido specifically.

Very cool guys. I'm actually teaching at a local place, called Hapkido USA.
Mcowger, I'm familiar with your studio. If i'm not mistaken, our schools are affiliates.

Agreed. I've done both and I liked jujitsu more too. I also balanced it out with some other styles, but jujitsu keeps coming back...although JKD is awesome.

Last time I took a martial art was for 3 years from age 10 till I was about 13. It was Tae Kwon Do at some janky *** overpriced chain school and I didn't know any better since I was just a kid. LOL.

I'm taking muay thai at the new fairtex in mt. view. They also offer Juijitsu there. Awsome trainers, i'm starting my second month. I'm loving the full body work out, but to get the most of it, you have to have a good partner, someone your height and knows how to hold thai pads.
