any rally/race friendly tire shops in the South Bay?

Hey all,

My usual source for cheaply mounted rally tires has dried up, so I thought I'd ask for some help on here.

If anyone knows or can recommend a tire shop willing to mount 'competition' tires for less than retail, I'd really appreciate it.

Payment can include rally car rides

TIA

I'd recommend Roger Kraus Racing in Castro Valley. I'm there right now and they said they can mount rally tires and such for you.

Thx, I might give them a call. CV is a bit of a haul for me (I'm in Saratoga), but if its my only choice, so be it.

What is the difference mounting rally tires apposed to street tires?

Rally tires are like, a 12 ply tire.....super stiff sidewall, and I've seen hydraulic tire mounting machines unable to force the bead over the rim.

Also, many shops won't mount competition/non-DOT approved tires for legal liability reasons.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought most places would do non-dot stuff if you bring them in off a car. Did not know they where so stiff that some tire machines cant do it.

Hey Jon,

I went to Auto Innovations in Milpitas to get my Lassa tires (purchased through you btw) mounted and balanced on my Braid wheels, they did it no problem. I forgot how much they charged but it was either the same or close to what they charge for mounting tires on 15" wheels. Definitely make an appointment though as they get pretty busy.
