Question ???Any bolt in cages for GC8???

Im looking for more than a harness bar or B-pillar roll bar. I saw Autopowers website and it showed that they have bolt-ins for the WRX with door bars. That cage is the one for me. Also saw Safety Devices cage for the GC but a full weld in is beyond my budget. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, it pretty much comes down to what do you want to do with it?

Lower speed classes in Nevada Open Road Racing and some club racing series may let you run with the AutoPower bolt-in, although I'm not really certain which ones.

And it is do doubt safer than a car with no cage if you're doing a lot of track schools and HPDE type events.

If your plan is to run in SCCA Club or Pro rally I'm pretty sure you'll need to pony up for the welded cage, as their requirements for mounting and bracing are very specific, even down to tube wall thickness for different alloys, from what I remember, they generally do not allow bolt-ins.

I'm fairly certain NASA's rally program also specifies welded cages.

Remember, the roll cage is there to save your life- it really isn't the place you generally want to get by with the "minimum requirement".

So my advice would be to carefully and thoroughly study the regs for whatever form of competition you plan on engaging in, and make sure that whatever you go for meets -or better still, exceeds whatever those regulations specify as minimum requirements.

CUSCO has them, but they are made for GC's without sunroofs. So some custom work will need to be done.

They have them for both 2 and 4 doors.

If you don't have a sunroof, you are set.

Safe the money and go weld in. Bolt in are okay, but if you do a lot of racing, weld in is the only way to go. My dad owns his own steel construction company and they use both welds and bolts. He said bolts are fine, but you cant beat welds. Just my opinion.

w3rd.

Bolted Cages can snap and impale you, not good.

Safety is too important to skimp...

Call Top of the Hill, they make great welded rollcages:

If you have an 94 Impreza L, it is not a GC8. There is no such thing as an Impreza L GC8. Better make sure that will fit!

Im interested in meeting NASA requirements for solo tarmac. Weldins arent allowed as to keep prices low and allow more people to join. My idea is to weld in the base mounts which you can get away with. This set up is common practice amongst the mini and M3 drivers. I talked to some rallyers about the weld in available from primitve racing. But to install theirs requires removing the windsheld and needs something like 60 ft of welds to complete. THe cost would go higher that the 1600 for the cage.!!! thanks for your input guys.

CUSCO makes about 9 different types of cauges for GC and GD Impreza.

They have bolt in cages and weld in cages. Chromoly and steel. Different pipe thickness. Number of points from 4 to over 17. Some are FIA certified. Some are JIA certified.

Plus, the person asked specifically about bolt in cages. He did not ask which one will impale you and which one will not.

James, if you are interested in CUSCO cage, drop me an e-mail.

CUSCO's Safety 21 cages are made from steel, so you can weld them at the base. A lot of people do that.
