i don't think i have a lightweight flywheel , as i know i bought the car bone stock from a middle aged lady ill have to check her maintenance records to see if she had changed the clutch flywheel. I know she did the timing belt at 105k.

My original turbo lasted me 264,000 miles and I only replaced it because I wasn't sure I wanted to have it feeding a rebuilt motor, turns out the one I replaced it with may have tore up my new motor instead... And Ray, I would venture to say that I've been at least as hard on my car as you have on yours.

My 02 WRX wagon's turbo smells like a stinky biatch at 116K. My mechanic says “it wont hurt the engine and to drive her locally until she dies but that the turbo has a small oil leak”. I was planning on somehow begging/forcing my uncle in law who is a l337 h4x07 and in town this weekend to fix Suzi (my car). I may need a td04 (or better) if it isn't something that can be easily fixed (like a tube or quick turbo reuild). Anyone have a good conditioned working td04 for an 02 WRX, or better, I could buy?
Other than a new radiator, a TSB on the clutch, multiple sets of tires, a cabin that smells like gas(also a recall), a new turbo, local douche dealerships, and a gas guzzler; the WRX is a great car 9 years later...way to go subaru engineers*sarcasm*
(please help me fix my turbo....)

Damn I didn't know so many people posted to my thread. Still shopping around for a turbo. My uncle and mechanic told me to put on my big boy pants and not be so worried about it. The noise I was worried about I guess is a bearing in my ac unit which doesn't work anyway. She still smells like crap and every once in a while I see a little smoke coming from the passenger side of the hood but the turbo still seems to function. The weird noise I thought was the turbo is most likely a bearing in the ac unit. Thanks for the feedback on the 2.0l vs 2.5 I was worried that my seals were next to go and was considering scrapping my car. I guess now I'll get a new turbo and a TBE and go drag racing in Fremont(jk)
i swear its the weirdest things i changed my spark plugs but same thing. its weird it misfires all 4 or it changes randomly it runs fine with the light on or off so i dont understand it. i've seen my check engine light flash at me and turn off. I have a cobb AP so i check the code's frequently and its always misfire but the orders change or it will say all 4 but i cant tell a difference when driving.
The rest of the engine seems happy enough - timing belt replaced, all services done and all parts are stock. Changing spark plugs didn't help, but I haven't tried changing the coils yet.

The smoke out of the passenger side is exactly what my first one did when it went. You check to make sure you don't have any loose fittings or cracks in the lines?
Haven't personally. Just going off the feedback that it is the turbo from the three mechanics that looked at it. I will for sure check this Saturday

Yeah I'd call any of the local shops or check around. I see td04's for sale constantly. I came across two of them on nasioc yesterday when I was looking for my ac compressor.
Good luck with the repair.

I get the same thing. About once every 4-5 months, I get a CEL. When I check the code, it is always a misfire and can be on any cylinder. After a couple of days, the CEL clears of its own accord. It always seems to happen within 5 minutes of starting the engine and seems worse in cold weather.

Just got my used turbo from Kevin for a great price...no shaft play (if shaft play means the thing wiggles or hits the sides) Now I need to figure out how to install one of these things....interested to see what my old one looks like now.
