Another stupid law, courtesy of California

No More Bare-Handed Food Handling in California. Even You, Sushi Chefs | Squid Ink | Los Angeles | Los Angeles News and Events | LA Weekly

They are mandating that anything who handles food must use gloves, this includes sushi and sashimi.

I don't want my sushi tasting like gloves, thank you very much. anyway we can throw up a **** storm to get this reversed? Washoku is hands down my favourite D:

It doesn't make a lot of sense...
I'm all from stopping the spread of salmonella, but if a guy wears one pair of gloves for an entire shift... same effect?

they wont shut you down for this. Its will just be labeled a "critical" violation and will be listed on your health report. Most health inspection report are now view able online. Also the state is giving restaurants 6 "grace" period on this.

PS. Califorina is the slow end of this. Lots of other states already require them to be worn.

*Gloves only work if handled properly, I know sushi chefs who are religious about their hands.

Walk into a S-way Shop, wait at the back of the line while you watch them make other's sandwiches. By the time you hit the counter you'll be turning around to leave. I've seen countless employees pocket or stash their gloves @ ring-out while talking to the cashier to only come back to the next guy in line with them already on, or pulling them out of their apron or pocket again to re-use. I sit there and go "WTF!?".

All so their location can save $9-$14/day on supply costs.

**IMHO This law's an excuse to pad the budget for the Health Department who can't even do their job right in the first place.

**That said, imagine if you're a sushi chef and the shame that comes if you find out you're diseased? It's not like we're in Japan and Honor outranks Income. People do selfish things. Glove's are necessary, but we go back to my first and second points.

My dad probably dgafs.

He was told to bleach his cutting board every 20 minutes.

So.... 5 hr shift. 15 times he's gotta bleach the board. Means. He needs 16 cutting boards. Yeah not gonna happen

My new fav law is the 'no alcohol at self-service checkout' in grocery stores.

Guess how many times I got carded at self-service...EVERY TIME.

...and waiting in line for 15 minutes because Safeway only has one checker on duty while the self-serve is empty?....ZERO.

No longer shop at Safeway even tho it's the closest (and least expensive) store to my house, I'll spend the extra 10 minutes (and money) to shop at Whole Foods where they have the proper amount of checkers.

They should have an ID scan at the check out and it won't let you unless you slide it.

Everyones forgetting the hoodlums who handle fast food. Ive seen bare handed food handling at some places and that alone makes me want to puke. Whoever thinks a set of hands is clean, even after you wash them, are trippin.....

I rather have conscious food handlers with bare hands than them thinking their gloves are clean.

Would you want your sushi served with gloves\, I think it ruins the experience and makes your dish taste like a rubber...

Watch, the next thing they'll do is install black lights at the sink and counter.
