I have been in several accidents and I do not notify the police at any time, unless there is serious injury or we are putting others in danger. All the police are is ticket givers. They can't notify your insurance or the other party's. That's your job. And if you don't get their information, that's your fault. Make sure you exchange insurance and all the info, and if he admits to it but wants to pay out of their own pocket, make sure you write up a nifty letter stating that they will take full responsibility, and have them sign it. If they refuse to sign, turn them into insurance, simple as that.

lame...

i just shake my head everytime i hear a story like this... hopefully both of your insurance company drops your policy. getting in a accident is a liability (your fault or not) and people just dont understand all the horrible things that could happen when they try to go around their insurance.

Lets just hope the guy doesn’t decide to drag you to court and blame you for the accident so he can collect $ for medical bills disability damages and time lost from work.

Why would you not call the police? Yeah, most police are ticket givers, but the power of a police report can go a LONG way in court or insurance. Hell, I was involved in a hit and run, I immediately called the CHP (i was on a highway) and they didn't even ask, they just wrote one up and within a few days insurance had already confirmed everything and I got over $600 for 2 1" paint scratches on my rear bumper.

I do not call the police when the other person admits guilt and promises to pay themselves, and I either have witnesses there or get it in writing. I am just as capable as any police officer out there to write up a report or get everything in organization.

Sure, when the girl rearended me on the freeway a few months back, she immediately admitted guilt, and she asked if she should pay out of her pocket. I told her yes, and since I had many witnesses there, there was no possible way she could screw me over. The only thing she could do was make the insurance process more difficult or take longer, but I was not afraid of that. After she found out it would cost over 900 dollars, she decided she'd rather report it. So I reported it and received the money. I do not need the police officers of this socialist society to hold my hand through every incident. I have every power and capability that they hold. When I call them up, all that gives them is one more ticket given and tell the police dept. they need to hire on more officers, and I don't know about you, but that is NOT what Iwant.
