All 240sx info??
Hey guys. I'm going to be doing a 20 project for my little brother. Just wondering what you guys think are the best, worst, engine swaps, everything and anything. What I was thinking is an S13 with silvia front with an RB25DET skyline engine swap. Probably going to go with the SR20DET because of costs but I would like to hear about everything and anything you guys know. I don't have the car yet but looking at an S13 or S14 for cheap. Not sure which one is better? Thanks!

s14 is a superior shell but the car is slightly more expensive of course because its newer. s13's look sick, but id go for s14 shell for sure. sr20 would be a better all around more reliable swap. super common, parts are cheap and they are pretty simple motors. and with a little work they can make some good power for pretty cheap.
RB25 is a sweet motor, sounds way cooler (i-6 mmmmm) and they make more power. But i've heard its more of a hassle and its a less reliable motor. Plus parts are a bit more expensive and not nearly as common/easy to find as the SR stuff.
Also, you can go KA-T for not too much money. If you were thinking about swapping, you could pull the motor and just put some new pistons in etc, cam it do some solid maintenance, decent sized turbo, FMIC injectors etc and have a sweet setup. The KA block is super stout just gotta watch out for oil problems I hear they can suffer from oil starvation but you could solve that with a new oil pan/little work. KA's are sweet and make power real well. that would be the easiest solution imo
problem though with swaps is that all of them are illegal in california. Apparently recently its become a little harder to go around driving a swapped s13/14 because they are really common swapped cars around the area.
Also, you could easily find a already swapped one for cheap, sr and rb swapped 240's really don't go for much and they can have some decent mods already done. Just gotta be careful a lot of people don't really put care into these cars you don't want one thats a wiring mess or something, thats not uncommon in the s-series world.

Everyone else, Thanks for the input. I never thought about doing the KA-T. But you made it sound pretty convincing. So if i did an SR20 swap I wouldnt be able to smog it? How much do you think the pistons,rods,cam,turbo,intercooler, and everything else for the KA-T would cost?

What exactly would I need to get to make the KA turbo'd? (If anyone knows) I list would be nice and I could look it up. All the stuff to make maybe around 300hp or more? If that is even possible? (I would be happy with 250) Thanks.

Just for fun but I want to do my first engine build so I figure I mine as well put a turbo on it since my impreza doesnt have one. I would probably do alot of drifting at the track by my house on weekends. Also, I wanted to do a complete swap because all the decent S13/14 I am finding are automatic and usually the new swapped engine comes with a tranny.

I'm sure all of your questions have been answered a million times on other forums.
On another note, my buddy has an SR20 swapped S13 but it needs a tune. He may be willing to sell you his in the coming months... I think he has put less than 1000 miles on it in like 5 years.
