Who says he was suicidal?
There's only one person that actually talked to him (whilst in the water) and suicide was never mentioned.

Be mad at the upper levels who use our tax dollars to hire people but don't properly train them, not the people who were instructed not to do anything
^^^ Agreed! Have you ever taken lifesaving classes? The first thing they teach you is when someone is drowning... they will do anything to save themselves i.e. pull you down and use you as a flotation device-

Don't be so quick to believe everything you hear in the news, besides it's the Coast Guard's job!

If you're not properly trained, you can get sued in the long run. I probably posted that somewhere, its either osha or something related.

Is everyone aware that he was crazy, 6'4 and 285 pounds neck deep in water? No one on this forum would have gone in there to try and do anything. Plus I don't think policy is to rush in and save a crazy suicidal person in any sinerio. Unfortunately for him he was sucessful in his suicide attempt. It's no ones fault hypothermia set in. He got what he wanted.
