I just sent off my ECU to Cobb, we'll see how it turns out. I-Speed EcuTek seems like a good deal $650 w/tuning.

yes you can have it retuned when you add more mods....trust me!!!

I-speed has been the cheapest as far as $$ on the reflash + tuning. Not too sure about Cobb...but you will definitly get the job done with Vishnu or I-speed. Plus they are local...so that is a big help.

I went with Cobb thinking that I'd stop with their stage 2. I was happy with the plug and play solution.

Now that I want a bigger turbo I need someone local who can tune it. I haven't decided who I will be going to, but I'm 99% sure it will be an ECUTek dealer.

how long do the local places take to do teh flash and tuning?
and what kind of benefit do you see from it?

The EcuTek reflash from Vishnu or I-Speed takes about 5 to 10 minutes. The tuning, if necessary, requires about an hour of dyno time or in I-Speed's case, two hours of road tuning. Vishnu has off-the-shelf maps for stock or some mods that work on a lot of cars - extensive or non-typical mods will require tuning on Vishnu's Dyno Dynamics dynamometer. I-Speed's price includes tuning.

Power gain for near stock vehicles is probably 35 to 40 hp and big increase in mid-range torque.

wow that's impressive

is this something that lasts...or does it have to get "re-tuned"

also, does this have side-effects, like more engine strain and worse gas mileage, etc.?

thx for the info

It doesn't 'go away' with ECU resets or anything like that so, yeah, it's permanent until reflashed again.

Any mod that increases power can put more strain on the engine and affect durability, but your right foot controls that more than anything else. Most tuners build in a margin of safety as far as boost, spark advance, air/fuel mixture, etc. Fuel economy at part-throttle and cruise conditions is unaffected (I still get 23 mpg on my daily commute, 28 to 33 on highway depending on route), but if you put your foot into it the added power sucks gas!
