Aftermarket Sub Install: NE1 Good With Car Stereos?
I have a 12" Kicker Comp in a sealed box and an amp from my last car and I want to install it in my WRX. I don't want to pay some assclown at the local car stereo shop to do it because I want to save $$ for better things and I know I can do this myself (with a little help of course
)
Anyhow, I'm looking at this converter and it should do the job pretty well. Now all I need to know is what other miscellaneous cables, fuses, and whatnots I'm going to need to buy. And most importantly a person with some knowledge in this field. So if you're in the area and have some free time to show a car stereo n00b how things are done, let me know. Thanks in advance!!

Hey bro you can pick up a line out convert. "hi-lo" convrter at best buy I work at the one in Fairfield the hi-lo is $22.00 plus tax. The other wire you will need is one the remote turn on if the stock dosn't have one go with the acc. oir switch 12 volts. Run your rca's on your pass, side and power down the driver in from the engine bay through the rubber groumet on the fire wall. If you have any quest. call me @ 707-439-0902
peace out and goooooood luck Miguel

I don't think you need that thing since you are putting a sub in... from the description, it seems like its for regular speakers and filters out deep low bass and enhance mid-high range.
What you need is the cables for the amp: red power cable with fuse, 3 feet or less of black grounding cable, blue remote turn on wire, RCA wires for the sound from the deck to amp (depends on your deck, you might need other wires if you don't have RCA plugs for the output on the rear of your deck, then you would need to tap the speaker wires) and various terminal ends for the wires (might need some wire taps if needed).
Installation is not hard... just getting all the wires from the front to the trunk while trying to route it and hide it under door sills, carpet, etc takes a while.

Cool thanks for the words of advice. I'm going to be using the stock deck, so which speaker wires would you recommend tapping into? If I tap into one of the four door speakers, wouldn't that draw voltage from that specific channel and reduce power to the speaker I tap into?
Do you know where the factory sub connects?

Bro you will need a hi-lo converter it dose not filter anything all it dose is take a hi signal convert it into a lo level signal to apply it to the rca's. Buy a 4 awg amp kit and that will come with all your wires and fuse. monster cable . fosgate, or streetwires are good and cheap.

That would be sick DaFastOne. I live off Mt. Hamilton, pretty close to the hills, the only problem is that i work on the weekends. I'll PM you tomorrow.
i'd tap off the rear speaker wires. closer to where you are gonna mount the amp - at the trunk, right?
buy a 8 gauge or a 100 watt wiring kit from frys or something to save headaches of trying to piece parts around...
yes, the navone converter is one of the better ones,if not the best.

I also have the stock deck w/ a hi-lo converter in my car..When i ran it, i did it behind the deck instead of the rear, and I am glad I did that b/c i real now how bad the stock deck is especially when you have subs in the trunk...

A little something I learned from listening to my husband talk about this stuff.

you can tap off ANY speaker leads.
reason i said to tap off the rear speakers is the location.
you could have tapped of the rear speakers right from the place where the head unit is. that requires you to run a longer RCA cable from the front to the rear trunk. assuming that where you wanna mount the amp and sub.
now, if you use the FADER or BALANCE controls alot, tap off the set that has the most volume.
myself, i hate sound coming from the rear. so i fade the rear. so if i were to add LOCs, i would tap off the front speaker leads.
make sense?

Yeah, it makes sense but it really seems like you're not doing it "right." I guess you're not really drawing any power from where you tap it because the LOC is only taking a small fraction of the signal. I just wish there was a dedicated line out for an extra speaker.
On a totally different note, I have an old MTX electronic crossover and I was thinking about using it to isolate the lower frequencies from the crappy stock speakers in the doors so they don't fart when they get bass notes. It would probably be a huge PITA but does it sound like a good idea? It looks like I could also use it to send the low end frequencies to my sub but that amp already has both crossovers built in.
I will be putting the sub in the back of my wagon just to make that known.
So here's a list of what I'm going to need:
RCA cables to tap into the front speakers (with the RCA ends cut off on one end and the raw wire soldered to the front speaker wires)
A 4 gauge power cable with a xx amp fuse from the battery to the amp.
Some sort of return cable to control when the amp turns on.
1 Navone LOC
I gather from Miguel that I can get most of the tic-tac connectors and cables in a kit from Best Buy, so I'll probably end up doing that. For the rest I'll probably just ask the guy at Best Buy unless Miguel can tell me exactly the kit I need
. Thanks for the help you guys!!
