Aftermarket Front Speakers

Hey guys, thinking about getting new front speakers. Tired of having my bass at like -5 so my passenger speaker doesn't buzz like a bee. Been doing some research, and im thinking about getting Polk db501's. Looks like they should fit into the door based on their depth. Also plan to get spade connectors for the plug. This would be my first time doing this so if any of you have advice/tips/info I'd appreciate it.

Im not looking for bassy or ultra high quality "bose" speakers either.

i believe you should be replacing the door speakers with 6.5's not 5's and those are not even really 5's but more like 4's. Since your using stock deck to power the speakers as well you wont need anything with a high continuous power rating. Those have a 45 watt rating and that is fine. the Polk Audio DXi650 would be the correct size to replace your front speakers with.
Have you gone to crutchfield and entered in your year/make/model?

If he's going to go through the trouble of doing 6.5's in the front he might as well do 5.25's in the rear. Same amount of work.

Runboy... one thing to watch is mounting depth when you choose yours speakers. If you want to go to a 6.5 you're gonna need spacers. Same for 5.25s in the rear.

IF you don't want to run spacers you need 5.25's up front and 4's in the rear.

And I highly advice doing some sound deading on the doors and covering as many holes as possible. Even if you do it ghetto it'll sound way better.

I forgot what. Vendor has the proper spacers. I have some precision power 6.5 and they're really thick. With a half inch spacer it barely clears. The polks should be fine with the adapter plate

Do you think its worth getting the larger ones over the 5.25s? Anyone know where to pickup some cheapo spacers? Cover up holes with aluminum tape or what?

OMA's advice is solid/sound advice. Yes you should go with the 6.5 up front and the 5 1/4s in the rear. If you follow his advice about adding some sound deadening it will help improve the sound of the door speakers. that will translate into better bass from them, you wont get "Wow do you have subs" kind of bass, but you will get better sounding bass from them.

Totally agreed. Sound deadening even makes stock speakers and such sound much better. There was a company that made spacers a while back, have to track that down. In my last install in an Impreza, I used Infinity Kappa separates 6.5 in front and 5.25 coaxials in back, with sound deadening, using the stock WRX head unit, and it sounded great. The only downside with components is finding a place for the x-over, but there are plenty of places to stick it.

if you get creative you can put 6.5s in the rear doors.

Looks like Polk makes a DB651S, the S standing for slim profile, should be able to fit them without the need for spacers.
