Advice please (Dealerships)

heya folks

been awhile since i made a thread

sooo here's the scoop, im about to go to a dealership after i go to the bank. A motorcycle dealership, but im sure the advice you're willing to give is worth it. The bike i want is 7200 dollars, i have 6500 dollars CASH. so A) what are my chances of getting the bike for 6500 OTD (Btw, its a used bike) and B) How can i haggle with a sales rep so it comes out in my favor?

the last time i was at a dealership was when i got my wrx, and it was super easy, asked for this price with this much down and they gave it to me *Shock* 22k out the door. it was fabulous.

the dealership is Pretty far away, do i have a chance if i call them up and tell them straight up that i have 6500 cash, and ask if they will take it. or do i drive down to the dealership, waste 2-3 hours of their time asking about motorcycles, financing, warrenty's, anything i can think of, then go to lunch, go back and offer them 6500 cash, after they have already invested 2+ hours of their time. what's a better game plan?

thanks

call them in advance and say I want this bike, I have 6500 cash. I will be there in 2 hours to pick it up if you want it gone

I agree with ucbsti. They are marking it up to sell....they're probably standing to make at least $1k. It would be a waste of their time otherwise. Things to keep in mind to use against them in conversation are things like: how long its been sitting there, how everyone has already bought bikes for summer, and how you have cash in hand which means no extra paperwork and phone calls to financial institutions! They love quick easy sales. They print out a bill of sale, transfer the title to you, fill out the release of liability and bam....sold! Best of luck

yeah i agree with both posts.

they mark it up because they know people will want to haggle. and if you save them the work of getting all the financing paperwork done they will cut even more slack. a cash purchase is always a happy thing to dealerships. less work for them to get done to make that dolla!

by OTD you mean use fees and reg. included? That's the part that likely won't go over well. The fees on $6500 from a dealership are about $650. They are required by law to collect taxes from you and they have document prep fees plus others...

I dunno man. Buying a used bike @ a dealership is a rip-off. Why not craigslist, BARF, or another bike forum? What bike are you looking at??

As a salesman, I never take phone-in's seriously. I am always more willing to negotiate in person because I know the person is serious. Over the phones hardly ever show up and I am therefore less likely to commit.

That's a hard one to find. Even the new ones sell out fairly quick. You can try Eastbay motorsports in Hayward or Honda of Milpitas. Good luck.

dont ever do anything on the phone with a dealership ... since i have worked in one i know personally almost all salesmen will guarrentee you the price you ask for on the phone to get you to the dealership, unless it's a ridiculously low price. I would suggest, going there, get a test ride, haggle them at 6000, they dont give then leave .. .go back the next week and do it at 6500 and say you've been around other dealerships and have seen the same thing go for 6500 otd at another. just my 2 cents.

dont go to east bay. They try to get every cent out of you. I was there with a buddy looking at bikes and i was asking prices otd and yadi yadi. they said something like near 11g's for a Kawi Zx6r otd. My buddy told him how much he got his for 2 weeks ago and the salesman started talking hella sh*t and doggin us.

That's odd. I know a few people who got good deals from there. I guess they got lucky. But yeah, those prices are wack. :x

OTD does not include DMV fees, tire fee, and paperwork. You would need more than $6,500 if you want to drive off that lot on that bike. Speaking from experience on purchasing something this week.
