Adopting a dog
Looking to adopt a puppy. Where do I start? I tried a few online shelters but they're not really accurate on what they have. I'm in San Jose.

PM now!!!!!! I'll PM you too. We have the nicest puppy ever. He's about 4 months, looks like a german shepard mix. He's not annoyingly hipper like usual puppies, does not bark annoyingly like usual puppies and he gets allong great with other dogs.

wow he looks big already! i want to get my dad a dog but i dont think hes fond of BIG dogs and im sure this one will get huge. Gil, ill keep you updated. i want the dog but idk if my dad will want it.

You can also look up the humane shelters. There are a bunch of them on the peninsula (Palo Alto, Santa Clara, San Jose etc.). There is one very close to Central Expressway and Lafayette. You can go look at the dogs, check out their history etc. The shelter dogs have had shots, micro-chips etc. taken care of. If you see a dog that you like, they will book a session in a play area so that you and the dog can check each other out. If you already have a dog, they will want to introduce them to each other to see if they get on ok.
The shelter dogs come from all sorts of backgrounds. Some are found as strays, some are dumped by people whose circumstances have changed and can no longer deal with ownership of the dog. If the background of the dog is known, they will have this posted in the animal's report.
When you finally settle on a dog, there is a bunch of paperwork, and they charge an adoption fee. I think this is to help cover their costs, and to make sure that you are serious.
We have two dogs at the moment. One was a stray from the shelter. The other we found running feral in Orange County. The latter we had to get checked to find if he had an owner. It turned out he didn't, so we adopted him as well.

Anyone know where i could find/adopt a pug puppy? I've searched on craigslist and on a lot of sites but most of the breeders are on the east coast. (I didn't want to make a separate thread)
