I used to have to drive to VIR alot and there were a ton of radar traps in Virgina where radar detectors are illegal.

Going to Mid Ohio was just as bad, but at least radar detectors are legal there.

Probably $2,500 or so is the max if you've had like a half dozen tix in a year, upon discretion of the officer based on your record and the tax is probably a function of the ticket (e.g., 30%)
So realistically, nobody gets hit with anything that huge, but it's technically possible.
