I heard there was, after I traded trunks I was pretty nervous driving around without one and finally got one, but I am not positive whether there is one or not. After seeing every single car on the road with one I kinda guessed there is but yea..

if you're trading trunks with a wingless car that has a third brake light, just trade rear deck lids when you do the trunk swap. it's pretty simple, maybe an extra 15 minutes extra at most.

unless you're just trading the spoiler and not trunks....if so then idk. afaik there is a law, but i don't the specific cvc or anything. good luck .

I thought every car made after 1986 or something was required to have a 3rd brake light.

If your car came wingless, there is one on the rear shelf. If your car came with a wing, there isn't one on the rear shelf.

[Solution]
When you swap trunks, remove the back seat and swap the parcel shelf (rear shelf) and third light. All needed wiring will already be there.

Basic tip for any safety equipment: if it came on the car stock - it needs to be there.

Yes there is a law. You have to have one. not sure of the years right now. I'm dmurk Lets just say 2000 and newer you'd get stopped by a smart cop.

When I was in my friends car that had no 3rd brakelight because the bulb was out (2003 accord), we were stopped by the local police. It was during the night.

He was nice about it and just gave a warning and no fix-it ticket. But with that being said, yes cops can and will pull you over for not having a third brakelight.

A lot of cars didn't come with a mirror on the passenger side back in the day
