Speeding car sheared in half in LA crash; three killed
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES - A speeding car was sheared in half Monday when it slammed into the corner of a building, killing a 51-year-old pedestrian and the two men inside, officials said.
The man was struck about 3:15 a.m. in the West Los Angeles area by a 2004 Nissan 350Z traveling at speeds well beyond the street's 35 mph limit, police said.
The driver of the car, 22-year-old Jeff Domond of Claremont, and his passenger, Marvin Washington, 21, of Walnut, were ejected from the vehicle.
All three men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the pedestrian was withheld pending notification of relatives, the coroner's office said.
The Nissan struck the corner of a building and was sheared in half. Its front and back ends were found hundreds of yards apart.
The collision was under investigation and authorities were trying to determine if street racing was involved. Witnesses told television news crews they saw the car racing another vehicle which sped away after the crash.
