Yeah no reason to slow down or stop so hard right away, the cars in front are idiots you gotta think about what the guy behind you can see. You don't stop way before the incident so the guy behind has no idea its up there. Shieeettt. Essentially unless you are so close (incident is like a 1/4 mi ahead at least) that you are going to hit someone or join the crash thats when you go full bore on your brakes. When there is something way up ahead around the bend you don't go full bore and come to a stop with 1/4 mi of room+ to spare, idiotic.

They didn't just appear from thin air. They are why the other Cars were braking.

Watch it again, it was around a almost blind turn, and the BMW slowed in the MIDDLE of the track (a huge no-no at the ring, rules clearly state you are to dive right and slow, like the falcon did). That is why the subaru group didn't have space or time to slow properly.

The falcon was obeying the rules of the track, and was pulled to the right. Mr BMW however was a total dick, mid track, on the brakes hard where he had no biz being. Quite clearly the BMW owner was new, panicked when he saw the yellow flag 1/4 up from him, and had no clue what to do.

here we see the falcon slowing down up ahead, still in the middle, BMW see's the slow down, starts braking, clearly is slightly to the right of the middle
AFTER the falcon slowed down, he got over to the right
the BMW had cars flying around him on both sides, and i believe once he "slowed down" he would have proceeded over FULLY to the right

on the brakes hard cause he's going from probably 100mph(???) down to 30 in a limited amount of space before the other car in front of him also slowing down?!! what is it in this screenshot, 6 car lengths between them at this point of slowing down?

It's really an unfortunate chain reaction with only the red car looking ahead and the other two reacting to the red car.
It looks like the red car was about to pass the BMW until he saw the flag and hit the brakes. And at that point, you now have two cars side by side on a track that's maybe 3 cars wide. They ended up, effectively 4 cars across.

Yellow flag does not mean come to a stop 1/4 mi+ before the incident, it means slow down and proceed with caution looking for obstacles. Being overly cautious and bringing your car abruptly to a stop when there is a 1/4 mi gap between the incident isn't helping anyone out or being safe.

Technically they didn't come to a stop. They were just going really slow and the subies were going really fast. No one stopped until the black suby was sideways.
