We're discussing this...
and have figured that we'll have multiple drivers. We will also make sure that anyone who drives sticks around and does pit crew work as well.
Divide the costs/time in the seat pretty evenly, and everyone has a great time.

I think a brat would be a fitting vehicle for this race. Otherwise, I've seen Roo's wagon.. Its solid. It could go the distance... well if it has cool enough graphics from huck. Personally if it was painted bright pink with STi logos all over it, id say that would add at least 100hp.

Update: I've got a team in the race. I bought UKNoob's Mazda 323 GTX and have entered "The Whirling Demon Slayers from Outer Space".

Please say you aren't going to let a 323 GTX get destroyed by entering it in the 24hrs?
Although I guess that GTX wasn't exactly a solid street specimen anymore.

um yeah, not exactly a solid specimen for much of anything.
In other news, I'll likely be parting out whatever's left after the race.

In case anyone's interested in driving for this, I'll probably start looking for drivers in March, and it ain't gonna be free to drive.

This would be soooo sweet - especially with some moshing mods to keep on the track and some serious safety as platypus mentions.

yeah, the Maz-dog already has a cage, a fuel cell and some decent race seats in it, so it was too tempting to pass up. If you're intending to build a car for this, there's lots available on Craigslist within the price range.
If you'd like to see the entry form that got me into the race, look at http://www.neilbliss.com/whirling/de...om/outer/space.

Me and some buddies were planning on entering next year's race too. Since none of us work in a shop or have hookups beyond the ton of parts we buy from various vendors, our plan in to have four people donate $500 each, which should pay for the car, the needed safety gear (cage, seat, fuel cell, etc), and any other expenses we incur. I'm glad this is making the rounds at i-club. I wonder if there's going to be a ton of entries next year since this event got a lot of coverage from the big mags (entries from Car & Driver, Autoweek, R&D, Sport Compact Car, etc)
Platypus, curious as to how you're getting around the $500 cap on the cost of the car? IIRC, the GTX was going for $1500. Regardless, good luck and look forward to seeing it out there.
