24 hour bug or something else?

Over the last 3 weeks or so, 3 people in my family have picked up some common illness. It started as nausea and stomach pain, followed by vomiting, and a high fever. After 24 hours or so the fever and nausea seemed to break.

The odd thing was that the 3 people got sick one-at-a-time, about 5 days apart from each other. I'm still trying to figure out if it's a bug that's going around, or if it's something in the household.

Anyone else get sick recently?

wow this is just too weird. I've been sick for the past 4 days as well and had to take 2 days of school off!

On wednesday, I came home from school and took a nap. I slept from 5-9pm and woke up with really bad nausea. I sat around the couch and threw up 30 mins later. After washing up I just went to bed.

The next morning (thursday) I woke up with a 103F fever and my parents sent me to the valleycare emergency room. At this point I kept having diarrhea and constant nausea (no vomiting). The hospital didn't do much but load me up with a lot of fluids and antibiotics. I came home much better with a lot of meds.

Since friday I'm a lot better now but I just feel like I have stomach/digestive problems... It's not exactly diahrea but it just feels like food isn't being digested at all. Yesterday my brother started showing the same symptoms. He started throwing up when my family started celebrating chinese new year and he was in bed with a fever for most of the day.

edit: I doubt my sickness and your family's are related... my doctor said it was most likely some bacterial infection from something I/family ate (like salmonella).

Even a doctor wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what it is without looking at the actual virus/bacteria cells. Anything else is just speculation.

By the way, does i-club have a resident doctor? I know we have resident cops, IT, *******s, mechanics, and a bunch of other stuff, but I can't recall ever seeing anyone say they were a doctor.

dr said it's a cold, but my mom gave it to me. We've both been incredibly sick over the last week, think the dr is fulla **** Never had a cold like this, that comes with a horribly fooked throat, enough sinus pressure to bomb the afghanies and migraine. A lot of people I know but haven't been interacting with have gotten sick recently too.

I had the exact same thing. I was wonderin' if it was a 24hr bug that no one has found yet. I didn't think it was the swine flu because it just disappeared after one day. I believe it's a bug going around. I was able to eat soup.

Not trying to over-worry anyone here, but just wanted to share a story that my fiancee told me on Friday. Pretty sad, and also an eye opener of sorts.

One of her coworker's friends has been sick on and off for the past few months. She went to her doctor's and they could not figure out what was wrong with her. Basically, told her it was some bug and that rest and sleep would be enough. Fast forward to a week or so ago, and she was still sick. She was adamant with her doctors that something was seriously wrong with her, so they do her bloodwork. Turns out she has Leukemia and she only has days to live. Sad as hell, and it's worse since she has a husband and two young children. I believe she's just at home, in quarantine waiting to pass.

Not trying to be negative or overreact to your current situation, but just a cautious reminder that sometimes minor coughs, sickness could be something a lot more serious. Hopefully it's just a bug that is going around though.

some of this stuff sounds like its food poisoning. what are you ppl eating?

I personally haven't gotten a flu in well over 5 years if not 10, catch a cold once or twice a year but generally attack it with meds within half a day of symptoms hitting me. The last time I puked was 2004 and that was due to poorly cooked food @ Fondue within 15 min of me eating it. Standard cleanliness protocols always apply these days; wash your hands, keep the purell handy when people around you are sick, and keep some distance from them.

A multivitamin daily and or a good dose of Vitamin C during the week will help enhance your immune system.

I think the flu and cold have morphed into a super bug, and nobody wants to recognize the problem because then we wouldn't buy 10 tons of nyquil and sudafed and chicken soup.

It took me around 24 hours before my main symptoms were gone (the fever, nausea, vomiting) but it took another 2-3 days before I got my normal appetite back. I mostly had apple juice and light chicken soups.

There was a news story on TV earlier, something about some convention full of kids getting sick (in NY, I think). Sounds like they had the same problems.

Edit: Google news is showing a number of hits on "stomach virus" recently, even a few large (100+ people) outbreaks.

sounds like you guys passed on a bug. Most of these bugs have a 5-7 day incubation period. Makes sense.
