You had 235s on 7in wide wheels?! I have seen 235/45/17s on Rotas last summer, but I don't know if it rubbed or if there was any fender flaring or other mods to get them to fit. I Thought the Fighters only came in a 50mm offset...

Correct offset is the key.

I am running 245/40/17's on my sedan with 0 issues.

My pal is running 255/40/17 with 0 issues.

Offset is the key.

offset might be the key to clear the fenders, but you need to remember about break clearance in the front. not only that, running that close doesn't allow a lot of room for camber adj with your car, cause it's not easy to put too much neg camber, and put your wheel into your strut.

Remember inside clearance also...

now, with your 235s, go hit a nice size bump, or dip on the hwy, and lemme know if your car rubs

Or corner hard as hell... some of us drive our cars with the upmost abuse. I'm running 215 tires, and i rub when i'm driving hard.

Also a key to not rubbing after dealing with offset is a super stiff suspension

Mike what camber are you running? In my 2001 sedan I had rear rubbing issues with 215/45R17 S03s on 17x7.5 Gram Lights with a +48 offset. Running 2.5 degrees of camber solved it. Bigger offset would have helped of course, but I don't have much clearance with the struts I have (Prodrive World Rally inverted 40mm strut bodies). I'm also trying to sell some P1s with those tires to get some STi wheels which will probably help out some.

To figure out whether or not a particular wheel/tire combo works on a particular car you need to consider the followings:

1. Outer fender clearance
2. Inner fender clearance
3. Shock/spring/purch clearance
4. Brake caliper clearance
