Because the american purchaser things they need all that b.s.
That's why the WRX and STI have been doing what they have since 2004.
Every version comes out with more creature comforts and costs more. I'd like to see them do something like what has been done with the EVO.
Have one version with GPS and a fat stereo and softer suspension... then have one that's stripped down but instead of the stereo and GPS it comes with better wheels, better seats, better steering wheel and stiffer suspension.
Same platform. Same car. 2 crowds.
They almost got there with the limited and the base model. But all it was was a stepping stone. Like base. premium. limited. They forgot about us a LONG time ago. It's time to realize it.

The RS is a bit hardcore and as you all have said something that stripped down will never come out from Subaru anymore in the US.
If in doubt, FLAT OUT

I checked out the current Impreza hatch and the hatch area appears to be the exact same size as my wagon. I take my dog in the back of mine all the time, but she's medium.

No it's definitely smaller. My mom has one that I carpool with her and it has no where near the space that the '02 to '07 proper wagons have. Height wise, but definitely not space wise. They mostly made more room for seating and less for cargo.
It's QQ thankyouverymuch

They did this with the '08-'11 Imprezas too. The hatch is just barely too small to fit a set of tires without folding down the rear seats. Roadtrips are kinda ****ty too. Comfortable seating for 4, only enough cargo space for 3 people's amount of luggage (1 week). Very frustrating.
