And if the Mazda had a AWD system on the Mazda 3, it wouldn't hold a candle to the Subaru system. It would also drive the price up to about the price of a standard WRX.

It isn't important to me what the next body style looks like. That's secondary to handling and performance. I didn't buy a bugeye WRX for the looks. Personally, I don't think any of the post-MY01 models look as good as the previous Impreza. Subaru is too conservative to come out with a retro Yugo or Edsel so if the next turbo model has significant advantages (i.e. stiffer chassis, lighter weight, improved suspension geometry) over the GD chassis and manages to be in the same ballpark price-wise, I'll buy one.
