i dont think is legite, cause my gf has a 1996 318 t and it is m series sport package. So i has m emblems all over it but it isnt a m3. So i think he is tying to pull something.

damn, if I didn't have my car i'd buy that in a second...
@ $18.5K it could need a motor for all i'd care... a motor for an E39 M5 is $14K plus $18.5K = $32K which is still a steal for an E39 M5....even a 2000.

the motor is one big ticket item, but what will kill you with an older BMW- and coming up on a hundred thou- it's all going to need service in the next hundred- are all of the other big ticket items- everything on those is silly expensive, and since it's an M- it's even worse- expect to spend your 18G to buy, 14G like zoeb says for a motor, and another 20 thou or so for all the rest of the stuff that's about to go;
Tranny, diff, driveshaft, CV joints, shocks, weatherstripping, seat motors..... the list goes on and on.
it might be worth it to someone, but I'll pass
