+1 Ed/Method Built Tuning

Well finally I have my car properly tuned and it feels great. Ed did an awesome job and I couldn't have asked for a smoother power band. The nicest thing is the boost response which kicks in fairly quick and pulls right through to redline.

Ken, thanks for the review. Your car made awsome power for being catted and as quiet as it is. I'm also glad we caught your fuel pump as it was starting to fail rather than once it had totally crapped out like several other cars I've seen.

Thanks

Hey Sean yeah I know your car made some nice 1/4 mile times. After I take care of some other stuff I might get tuned with race gas just to have that option when I feel like going fast.

I've had a few fuel pumps go out in other cars but, not in my 02. In my truck, it worked fine one day and then it would barely idle the next. My car has 110k miles on the original pump. California Cobb Stage 2 map for the last 40k miles. Should I throw a pump in there just to be on the safe side? I was thinking of buying a fuel prossure guage and testing the pressure from the shrader (sp) valve. Any thoughts?

Sorry for the hyjack gh0st shad0w. Nice numbers though!

I haven't seen too many EJ20 fuel pumps go out with the stock turbo. STI fuel pump failures are becoming more and more common, however, even at stage 2 power levels. Considering the high mileage, I would recommend atleast getting your AFR checked out. You can use a fuel pressure gauge to check the health of the pump, but you'll have to be able to watch the gauge at WOT as this is when the weaker pumps tend to manifest themselves.

Thanks

I guess this is more incentive to install that HALMETER I have lying around the shop.

Have had this for over a year and need to install it one of these days. Probably when I do my clutch in the next few weeks.

It looks like that's just a narrowband sensor and cannot measure anything richer than 12:1. Turbo engines in general, and Subaru engines especially tend to run significantly richer AFR's than that under WOT on pump gas. This device wouldn't be of much use to diagnose fuel pump issues unless the pump is really dead.

Any suggestions on a AFR meter?

The reason I'm bringing this up is that last summer my car was having boost issues where it would only run on wastegate boost when the weather got really hot. I would rest the ecu and then it would run normal for a tank of gas or so. Then it would shut down again. But, as soon as the weather got cooler, it would run fine. It never threw any CEL's so my guess is that it was leaning out on the topend and causing it to missfire. Just speculating though.

I think Ed uses the Innovate wideband and so do I. The AEM and NGK is cheaper though, and you can build you own if you are hardcore.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Innov...67120116QQrdZ1 is the permanent install model.
