are 05 sti steering rack bushings squishy....

.....so there i am machin' down a side road, and i take a turn really fast ON the gas. I am expecting the car to center the wheels after the turn, but the car would NOT come out of the turn. all of a sudden there is this vague feeling up front, and i have to pull the wheel back to center. not too hard, but still, i have to center the wheel. THen a vague retirn of feel to the steering.

could it be my steering rack sloping around? or are my winter tires sidewalls so soft they wont release out of a turn properly?

i have steering rack bushings that need to be installed. i hope that might help....

If worn out, yes.
Snow tires can be mushy, but that's at higher temps.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I've heard that steering rack bushings should take that away. I'm about to install some too.

Are you sure you weren't just feeling the front diff locking? Under lower traction conditions such as with snow tires, if you get on the throttle in a turn enough to lose traction on the inside tire, the front diff will lock and transfer power to the outside tire. This will usually cause the steering wheel to actually get pulled into the turn and it will keep pulling into the turn until you let off the throttle or pull the wheel back to center. This is even more pronounced in a FWD car with an LSD.

The steering rack bushings can create a vague feeling and can cause the centerline to be a bit inconsistent after loading the car up in a turn. If you're still on the stockers at 90k, its definitely a good idea to change them out either way.

Thanks
