** ATM / Credit Card Fraud Warning **

Just a heads up...

I got hit with a few thounds yesterday.

Not putting to much details out at the moment.
I can tell you I have done allot to protect myself. Differant shipping address's and even differant bank account names to match.

But someone got my info and found a few places to buy from that do not confirm names or shipping to billing addresses.

I'm still putting things togther....
Its amazing that even these companies will not give you any info.. After yelling at the guy in India I was able to get least what was bought using one transaction. But he would not give me the shipping address.

BofA has not been very helpful as well. I'm dealing with the police and FBI next.
I just wish I could get the address some stuff was being sent to.. I'd loved to have been in that package.

Yes I put this here as its been tracked to a online part place for subaru parts.
Buy at the local shops... In person...
I'll added details as they come or I can as to not give much away. I want these clowns done.

Yeah.. just the other week I got fraudulent charges on my credit card.. the card was still under my possession and I have no idea how they got my info.

I rarely use the card and used it recently on half.com and bookbyte.com which are legit websites that are pretty reliable i would say. It took me a handful of phone calls and lots of waiting around until I got my statements adjusted.

Getting ur info stolen sucks and makes you paranoid. I formatted my computer right after it happened.

Anyway, I hope the person that did it gets whats comin' and if its a reputable shop that did it.. sucks for them and the community.

Seems like there are different types of credit card thefts. Sometimes you hear about it on the news when a bank or company has a laptop or data stolen which contains customer information. I think more common are unscrupulous people working in actual stores. They take your credit card information for a legitimate purchase that you make and then use it later. I had a coworker who placed an order with a known online store and later had an unauthorized charge originating in the same city as the store's physical location.

There was a huge scam about 5-6 months ago where someone working at Capital One and Amex basically sold the challenge questions and answers along with the card info to people. What would happen then was the thief would call in and change the phone number and billing address on file for the card.

All they did from that point was place online orders and wait at the vacant house they used as a address for the goods to arrive. A bunch of aftermarket shops got stung by these guys as the orders would pass all the checks on the systems.

These guys seem to be very good at what they do so I would caution everyone to watch out and keep an eye on your monthly statements or online.

My Amex got ripped off in this way with a whole ton of random weird things ordered, they never caught the bastard responsible and it caused me a ton of grief to put right.

i hate how your bank account statement of what you bought is sooo vague...why cant it just say "Chevron Gas Purchase"

instead of "2874 W El Camino" blah blahhhhh

I can hardly confirm 1/2 the purchases on my debit card just because the naming convention sucks. I try to pump my gas at the dollar so $xx.00 so i know its gas!

When you use your pin # it will usually give the address of where the purchase was. If you use it as credit it will usually show the name of the place. It's just the way the merchant reports. Your bank can tell you what is from where though.

It's called skimming. Lucky for me, working for the fraud department of a bank, I know where not to use my cards because of those fun little devices.

Damn sorry to hear about this. Some pretty scandalous people out there. I was able to learn a lot from my dad who is a Serg for Hayward PD and has been in the narcotics dept for the past 10yrs or so. He actually teaches a ID Theft/Scamming course thats about 16hrs long nationwide at other PDs to pass the info and trends on. Ill ask if he has any resources he can pass on to further help out. Just heard about another scam/id theft that actually takes place at gas stations and ATM/credit card transaction machines where you swip your card through. Theyre putting a second card reader that records your cards number and either putting a camera facing the keypad or this piece that goes over the numerical keypad that records your pin number. Heard about the same kinda ordeal going on at restaurants where the waiter/waitress will carry a portable card scanner and swip your car through when they go to charge your card. They can keep it in their pocket and only have to swip it once and the scanner can save hundreds of credit card numbers. Sorry to go on and on, just thought Id pass on some info, and I hope everything works out for you.

Hey bro, I live in lafayette. Just last monday I was notified by BOFA fraud department someone had been using my debit card main checking acc. # in barcelona/hong kong. I have the card in my hands still. I had to close the thing out fully and get a whole new account number and card (instead of just getting new card/code). I'm going to have to fill out some forms etc I guess to get reimbursed. Luckily BOFA caught it early since it was withdrawing from my checking etc. Anyways sucky to the max.
