*** Warning *** SJ: POLICE TO HOLD SAFETY AND SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT FRIDAY NIGHT
#51
did you know, that all checkpoints must be "advertised" to drivers like a good half mile or so?
that way, driver's can avoid it, IF THEY ARE SMART...
but you know who gets caught anyways... doh...

the news report showed protestors saying this is itself illegal since they are targeting latinos since most illegal aliens dont bother getting D/L...
i guess they just dont understand the meaning of ILLEGAL...
sigh... that's why this state is going to hell...

We need to re-write out DUI laws.
1st offense - severe penalties (court fees, mandatory weekend work, mandatory minimum sentence, license suspension, etc).
2nd offense - congratulations you have lost your privilege to drive any type of car for the rest of your life, plus more jail time and fines.
3rd offense (or any offense combined with vehicular manslaughter) - prep the gallows.

I feel like there should be billboards with the penalties laid out clearly, etc etc. I think the checkpoints are a good idea because if there is no way to get around without passing through them and people know this, maybe it will cut down on it. I don't have a problem with them and I have been through a few, but then, I don't drink and drive.
If anyone were to complain that DUI checkpoints are a problem, I think they do not understand that drunk driving is a serious problem and it is out of control. It's definitely worth some of my time if they catch a few drunks. The biggest issue I feel though is that the situation as it sits currently is a huge money-maker so it is unlikely that anything will be done as that would result in less DUI cases and thusly less money. Sick sick sick.
