turbo 2.2?

hello all i have a few questions i was wondering if you guys could help me out. I am planning on buying a 97 awd 2.2l impreza but wanted to know more about boosting it before i buy it. The way i understand it is that a jdm legacy turbo manifold will bolt on right? Then could i use say a wrx tmic with a wrx turbo and buy a hose kit and have the remaining lines fabricated. will this all work ok or is there a flaw in my master plan? any info at all would be greatly appreciated. Another quick question is about swapping heads i am under the impression that the stock single port heads have horrible flow characteristics. what heads if any could be bolted on, and what manifold would i need then. I understand that i am asking alot but i need to know my options before i sell my 240sx

no man, all i have heard is rumors and speculation. I was hoping to have found out something for sure at least dealing with the manifold. I however did see a 2.5rs in a recent modified mag that said he was using a jdm legacy turbo manifold, i think the blocks are extrernally the same , but i am almost positive the heads are different. hopefully the moderator will jump in and lend us a hand

hey guys, the 2.2 is one of the best engines to mod because of it's low comp ratio. if you want to talk to one of the best tuners, get a hold of robert ansick at forced air technologies/ www.forcedairtech.com. i have a turbo on my 99 2.2l that he did for me, damn!! it is a rocket and i am only running 6psi.

hey kids i talked to a gentleman who has a wrx with a claimed 4oo hp. He told me that the wrx heads will bolt on to the 2.2l block with no problem, wich will then allow the use of wrx manifold, after that the rest of the boosting process is stright forward, mount your intercooler run your lines, and figure out how to tune it. any way this is still just rumors to me untill i can have a good amount of people tell me this is legit . once again anyone reading this post any help is greatly appreciated, please if you have any info don't be afraid to share it

As far as injectors go, STI injectors are the best choice, but very pricey. I'm running JDM silvia 370cc injectors on my turbo 2.2L, and with about 250 hp, I've got them turned down almost 40% with my S-AFC. So needless to say, they're sufficient for a good deal more horsepower, and I picked up the whole set for less than $200 on e-bay. MInor modifications to the injector wiring connection is necessary, but no compatability problems have been experienced.
Poorboy, don't even F#$% with the WRX tmic!! It's a HUGE pain in the a$$. I did it, thinking the same thing you did. It won't fit in the engine bay, so you'll have to reroute every wiring harness, remove A/C lines, and shave down your throttle body inlet and tmic outlet just to squeeze it in. Not to mention all the metal cutting you'll have to do. In addition, the inlet to the compressor side of the turbo is only an inch away from the intake manifold, requiring a custom up-pipe modification or intake. GO WITH A PRE-MADE turbo kit. You'll save time, money, and sanity.

Fast Legacy....
How much more fuel flow do you need? You can look into getting your injectors cleaned/flowed, then just use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to increase there flow. You can go 10 psi up safely, beyond that I'm not sure. So you basically have to find out how much more fuel you need before buy a set of injectors.

hey legacy, with the kit i have now, 1) had it on almost a full year and 20000 miles. injectors, bone stock. no problems. i do however plan on getting 330's as soon as the intercooler gets here in july. then i will take the boost to roughly 10-17 psi.

according to robert, the garrett turbo he put on my stage 1 kit, is cappable of supporting up to 475 hp. he had the same kit on his 99 impreza l and was running 15 - 17 psi on bone stock internals. of course it was intercooled and the injectors were changed. i am not supprised by your reaction though. everyone and their cousin told him it was not possible to do this..... give him a ring, i'm sure he could explain it to you better than i could.
thanks in advance,
todd

You boost 17 psi on stock internals and you'll be picking metal shards out of your engine bay. BAN SUV's is right, man. My brother had a boost controller glitch resulting in a spike of 15 psi on a internally stock motor 2.5 running a Spearco FMIC and 370cc injectors, and it blew a rod straight through the engine block. But feel free to try it. Unless you can lower your compression to about 8.5-1, then it's not unreasonable to boost 20+, but your tranny won't be happy.

hey 7, the 2.5 is a totally diff compression ratio. the 2.2 with no maf, is the best subaru engine to modify. the only reason i mention 15-17 psi is because it is being done as we speak on my tuners car. when i talked with people at subaru north america while i was looking to turbo my car, told me they did not buy it either until they actually saw it at a rally in vegas.
