TMIC vs FMIC

What is the difference between TMIC and FMIC other than its position under the hood? Like any power gain or temperature lost between one and the other???

There are many, many, many threads about this. Do a little search and you can find out. There's no right answer.

TMIC:
smaller
cheaper
you can use the stock intake system
easy to install
less piping=less lag

FMIC
bigger (but you need a really big turbo for it to matter that much)
more cooling when moving
preheats your radiator
more laggy
need a short ram intake

i'd say go with a front mount, ... buh you gonna feel the lag with that turbo if you dont have engine work. >< and if you dont have the 6spd .... the 5spd will go out if you launch it.

Unhappy

you will not pass visual with a fmic in Cali, because you are getting rid of your stock intake.

Won't you pass cali visual if you have a c.a.r.b. approved intake? I'm not from cali, but I would assume you could do that. Or just register in NV.

I'm no expert, but I think a lot of people underrate the power you can make with a tmic. Everybody's favorite, the 22B, ran a vf23 (close brother of the vf22) with a teeny tmic.

actually, there is some carb certified intakes out there. they just don't fit any of the aftermarket fmic.

correct me if im wrong but in addition to the power your making you need to look at what you are gonna be using the car for.

drag: TMIC
road, rally or auto-X: FMIC

With the vf series turbos a tmic would be more than enough to handle it, as far at a vf22 might wanna look for a better than stock tmic... But really no need at all to upgrade to fmic
