You don't "need" anything. It'll work fine on an otherwise stock car. For gains you'll need upgraded injectors, fuel pump, and ECU tuning. Also, a turboback and uppipe, I'd get those first.

No. Probably no difference, maybe slower spoolup.

you should get injectors and fuel pumps, just in case. its risky.
plus, you should get ECU tuned somehow to manage the increase volume of air going into the engine.

You can't JUST upgrade a turbo that easy. Like somebody already said depending on the turbo with the increased air going into your cylinders you need more fuel. The way to get more fuel is either forcing it down the engine's throat or ECU tuning. ECU tuning is the prefered method but not cheap because normally you have to do a reflash or some form of a stand alone. With new found surplus of fuel you need the fuel goodies to accomodate such as a good fuel pump like a Walbro and some bigger injectors. Last thing you want is injectors that can't put enough fuel in the cylinder and the engine goes kaboom. Good luck wiht your projects fellas....

I've gone down the path you're looking at. I had a VF34 and Up-pipe installed on an otherwise stock car. Boost would spike wildly, so I controlled it with an MBC. I got some decent power but it was laggy and inconsistent. Then I had my ECU reflashed to use the stock fueling. Power was better, not as laggy, and much more consistent. Unfortunately, I was running my injectors at close to 95% duty cycle and that had me a little paranoid every time i got on the gas. Finally I had STi injectors and Walbro pump installed and yet another reflash, and the car was just a beast after that.

It's worth the wait to do it all at once, because all you'll have with just the bigger turbo is more lag and very little power increase.

This is a common Stage type of kit offered by various tuners around the country. Look at Cobb Tuning, Vishnu Performance, and TurboXS for their offerings. Chances are that one of their kits is very similar to the VF34 (or VF30) that you are looking to upgrade to. I think they all include the turbo, STi injectors, Walbro fuel pump, turbo back exhaust, and engine management of some type. Some members upgrade their fuel rails to pieces like the Perrin rails, in addition to the turbo kit.

not too sure on that but it should be cheaper now i bought the turbo when they were about $950. so, $950 for turbo, $200 for up-pipe, $400 for injectors, $100 for pump, $650 for reflash = right around $2300.
