Garret Conversion info needed
Hello.
I am interested in buying an STi and I currently have a Garret T04E .50 trim wheel, with a stage III turbine from my current car.
I was wondering could I adapt this to the Scooby with success? Is it worth the bother? What is the cost of this kit alone? THanks.
Eric

You're going to need a custom IC pipe from the turbo outlet, and if it was from a Mitsu, you won't be running coolant. So you'll need to reroute your coolant system. Also, the flange on the exhaust side is different, but nothing that can't be cut from your current manifold and welded on to a Sub. uppipe. The most expensive piece will be the IC pipe. I'd make a model of it out of PVC pipe, and have a shop make me one from that.
Not too expensive, but some retro-fitting will be necessary.

They do for the WRX
So, it should fit the Sti but the turbo in the Sti is alot better then that one.
If your going for all out 1/4 mile speeds then that might work for you but the Sti turbo is awsome all around unit.
A side note the Sti turbo is cutting egde and if your looking for a 1/4 mile killer the turbo is the last place to start.

Isn't 300 hp enough for you right now?!? Yeesh!!
The turbo is an IHI VF39 with a ball bearing center section. Get an electronic boost controller, and turn up the boost a little. You'll be amazed at the results. Putting in a bigger wheel would be the most cost effective way to up your turbos potential, but I'm not sure of the cost or your maximum potential. Try to max out your VF39 B4 worrying about a new turbo. Besides, switching turbo setups will void your warranty, and I doubt you want that without much history on the STi's reliability. But, maybe you're really rich, or crazy...or both!!

I wouldn't run a 400 hp car with piggybacks. If stock power isn't enogh for you, tune it right with real engine management. The engine is pretty stressed as it is.
