EJ22T stroker to 2.4L

I have a couple of questons about working with this block.
Will this stroker kit allow high levels of boost?
How would a go about making it closed deck?
Will the 6MT work on this engine in a MY00 RS?
What driveshaft would i use with the 6MT if i wanted to use the R190 rear diff?
Suggestion on what turbo to use.

Stroking to 2.4L wouldn't make much sense? That sure doesn't make sense.

First of all, the EJ22T (if it is in fact a T, which means it is out of 90-94 Legacy Turbo or Impreza 22B) is closed deck from the factory.

Second of all, there is not doubt that a 2.4L will outperform any 2.0 or 2.2 liter motor.

Subaruski,

Which stroker kit are you refering to?

The motor I have is in fact a stroked EJ22T.

There are different ways you can make an EJ22T into a 2.4L.

Here are the specs for my motor:

2.2 legacy turbo block
darton ductile iron sleeves
ross pistons-98.5mm bore with custom pin height
pauter rods- stock 2.0 length
2.5 modified crank-79mm stroke
14mm head studs
total seal rings
cometic head gaskets
factory bearings and misc gaskets

The 6MT will work with it. Once again, that is what I have. However, since the EJ22T is a Phase I motor, it is a "4-bolt". Some of the tranny bolt holes will just be left. Not a problem. Also, the lower starter mouting hole on the tranny willl need to be tapped, since there is no hole for it on the block. Once again, not a problem.

You will need a 6MT driveshaft or a driveshaft our any AT Impreza.

Feel free to ask me any further questions. In terms of technical specifics of the stroked EJ22T, I will leave it up to my engine builder to help you. I am not an "undisputed expert" on this matter. I can only help you with those aspects of your project that I have personally worked on (everything besides the engine building and tuning) and driving experience.

All in all, a stroked EJ22T is a killer motor. Bulletproof, you can say, if it is done properly and tuned with knowledge.

Ahh the 2.4/2.5 stroker motor... the best bang for your buck scenario IMHO. This is eventually what'll I'll end up with along with ported heads which is a bottleneck after awhile. I'm pretty sure you can use the phase I EJ25 crank to create a 2.4 or 2.5 you just need to have the rods spec'd for the displacement and pistons to match.

here is one in a 2.5 block.. it is still hella strong with the iron sleeve, but not fully closed like my fav 2.2 motor.

It's 90-94 Legacy Turbo and 98 Impreza 22B.

Closing the deck is going to be more of a pain in the a$$ than just buying a more boost friendly engine. Talk to Bill at i-speedusa.com about turboing your 2.5. He's the undisputed expert of these cars. As far as drivetrain and transmission go, look in GENERAL FORUMS, under NEWS, at Imprezer's post on the 6mt. Happy hunting.

I have to disagree with comment about the ej20 running higher boost then an ej22t.It may be easier to find performance parts for the ej20 but that doesn't mean its a stronger motor...because IMHO it's not.The ej22t is probably the best motor ever built by subaru and it has more torque then the ej20 also
