noob tire question
please don't flame... I tried doing a search here, and on google, people say they are able to do this, but no mention of the drawbacks...
I need to replace my tires pretty desperately and the tire i want is backordered in the stock size. they have the 225/50 16 in stock at tire rack. will this tire fit without too many issues (any diameter related or fitment related issues)? trying to stay as close to the original size as possible.

Why is that?
I know lots of people run 225/50 on their stockers... I'm running 225/50 on my car... well, I have extra 0.5" width since they are 00-01 2.5RS wheels, but 225/50-16 fits just fine on 16x6.5" & they both have identical 24.9" diameter.

Clearance & fitment are fine, but few people may not like the FEELING of extra 20mm meat on 6.5" width... 225 is more ideal for 7" width but acceptable for 6.5".

I was looking at the Continental Extreme Contact DWS at tirerack. they're all out of the stock size, and I'm kind of in a bind, need them soon. looking for a good all weather tire that I can take up to Tahoe which means some snow. Figured for 90 bucks, can't go wrong, ratings seem to be good, especially for the price.

I heard lots of people complained about the soft sidewall, but don't quote me since I've never experienced it.

Lots of people like Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position but it costs almost 20 bucks more EACH!
I also heard good things about BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S.

the conti's seem to have a good rating for light and deep snow, and i usually only head up to tahoe 2 or 3 times a year, so as long as there won't be any fitment issues with using a 225/50, i'll probably go that route. i have a separate set of summer tires for the "fun" driving
