What do you guys think? 1991 Legacy Turbo

If I buy this it is going to be totally stripped for RallyX, and every kind of racing I can do. I've heard that this has the Automatic/ Triptronic tranny. If so I am going for it. I want to learn how to fix the engine anyway. For about $800 I don't think I can pass this up. It is heavy, but I think I can cut a lot of the weight out. Wasn't the 1992 Legacy was in the WRC?

buy it. yes the legacy started in 1990 in WRC. if i'm not mistaken.. your year (92) marked the duo of vitaaen(sp?) and colin mcrae.
legacy=gravel king
800 bucks, i'd jump on it.
*edit* aw i thought u were looking at a 92. forget it. that 91 sucks. whats that guys phone number...

i was joking about that 91. it was a ploy for me to buy it. if you are gonna gut it out and use it as a starter car for a rally then i say buy it.
i think its good to start with an underpowered car, and at that cheap of a price- it won't hurt your wallet that much if you get some serious damage.
if i'm not mistaken, i beleive the stock HP for that year in turbo was around 155-160.

Oh dude. I missed out on that deal. You should jump on that quick.

BTW, the only dubious Subarus were EA's and previous. EJ's all seem to be very sturdy, reliable cars. I don't know much about the FWD ones, though.

and one more thing. if that car has the stock seats- i'd drop em. leather seats were standard with the legacy sport sedan(some serious lbs.). maybe you can put em in your rs.
i did some research.. the peak torque (180) at 2800 rpm! ....

Greg how would you buy it? It is in Indiana? Of course this would be for starter rally, but I am going to try to hit up every rally even from when I get out of the USMC until school starts in August.

the owner of our dealership just bought a dirtbike off ebay- from NJ! its a crazy idea- i was just playing with the thought. somehow i feel that if i had a beater car i'd feel less prone to buy another expensive car, or drop wads of $$ on mine...
plus i just hit 15,000

Okay well I have found some new info, and this car has potential. The turbo legacy has the same long block as the 22B. It has a 7.5:1 compression ratio. Check out these pics:

Yeah I have OCD or something! I want a car that I can completely tear apart to have one and only one purpose. I also don't want to have to worry about crashing the car.
