Double Din for the win! AVIC D3's are taking over the world. My roomate has a F900BT and it really REALLY sucks compared to my D3. The load time is horrible, the touch screen is super un responsive (you have to press the screen like 4 times to get it to go) and there is a delay like a **** to any button selection. The D3 was the last good double din from pioneer, we'll see what the future has in store though.

My thoughts exactly!
I have a Pioneer screen in my car and I love it. As for the theft, a few friends of mine fabbed up a "stock looking" cover screen that was attached to half of a CD so they could place it over the touchscreen if their car was parked somewhere where theft might occur. I will have to dig out a picture of theirs, it looks pretty stock when the cover is in place.
This is what mine looks like. I love it!

I runs Windows CE so it can be modified and load time is in the ~12secs
I like the flip.
Bigger Screen size.
You can hide the screen and make it look like a normal radio.
I would only get the Alpine with Navi though. Same software as a Lexus GPS.
Oh yeah, and tilt.

Less moving parts means less things that wear out. This is what a stereo shop owner told me specifically when I was between picking a HU that had a flip screen versus one that didn't. The one that didn't was slightly cheaper so he wasn't financially motivated to tell me that.
Plus, the double-din looks better and for certain years of WRX (02-04) if you have the flip up screen you lose use of your cupholder

The flip screen is cool, takes a lot less space and you won't likely get broken into to have it stolen either. The downside is they are kind of like a woman; slow and delicate, but you don't have to beat them as much.
The fixed units are more reliable and don't block other things, like vents or controls.
