new legacy gt project

just picked up a 99 legacy gt 2.5 5 speed, it has blown head gaskets...

clean title 97k

what are my options as far as engines?
is it twin cam or single cam?
how hard is it to do the head gaskets?
would it be cheaper to put a new motor in or just fix the existing?

heres the car

btw i paid 800 bux for it

damn 800? lOOKS clean dude.wish i had a stick...anyways, the engine is DOHC.the headgasket replacement is going to be between 600-1200 for labor since the engine has to be pulled.parts would be anywhere between 50-500 depending if youre just doin headgaskets or also the water pump,t-belt,ect.my headgaskets are blown aswell so i will be doin this to my car within the next couple weeks.

If you are doing work yourself & don't care about loosing some power. You can switch back to 2.2 sohc(if you can find) much more durable engine in my experience, being that I've gone though 2- 2.5 & my original Legacy L with 2.2 is going on 227000. Just a thought.

Since you bought the car for so cheap you have extra money for a turbo 205/207/255/257 swap right?!?!?!

For 800!? Great find, definitely agree with the folks in here about the swap. That, and a fresh paint job.
