Coolant smoke from turbo area.

Hi!

Okay, I pulled my turbo off to replace my transmission, one of the tubes that I had to remove is a coolant/antifreeze line. I put everything back on including the clamp that secures the line and cannot see any fluid leaking, but am getting antifreeze smelling smoke from around the turbo area. Nothing is dripping down under the car.

Is there a place that the fluid can pool up next to something that gets hot? Anyone ever have this problem when removing/reinstalling a turbo? I took my drop light and had it everywhere I could get it in the engine compartment, still not seeing anything obvious.

Thanks for any tips,
Derek

Let it run for a half hour last night in the garage, it didn't happen again. Starting to think some of the coolant dribbled down the heat shield of the exhaust manifold.

If the coolant is boiling over/off and seeping through the rad-cap or past a clamped hose it could very-well-likely be completely boiled off of the parts it is hitting during your driving.
I would clean everything thoroughly (heat sheild, hoses, block, dp, all of it..) After the cleaning, if it does leak again, you will find the residual mess easily. :]

Just my $.02...good luck dude.

yep... the coolant goes everywhere when you take off the turbo. Just drive it for about 10 20 mins and it should burn off all the water. Just make sure you keep an eye on the temp just in case.

Just did my trans too. But my coolant gets stuck in the heat wrap so i have to drive it to get them hot enough to burn it away

Thanks for the input, seems the more I drive it, the more faint the smell gets. I imagine the residual coolant is burning off, the coolant level is still full.
