DIY: Wire adapter for cell phones (for an ipod hook-up)
Soooo
Ive got a ipod hook up running from the back of my deck into my glove box. It plays my ipod thru my deck and charges my ipod as well.
Well now I want to do this but with my phone.
I know I wont be able to play audio and charge thru the same cable as the ipod, ohwell.
i dont want to use the cig-lighter to charge.
I found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-USB-30pin-...-/120687975972
it will plug into the male 30-pin connector in my glove box, but then I need a male micro usb to plug into my phone.
then i found this:
http://www.cellularfactory.com/whole...et.jsp?d=42517
but i would need the female connection instead of the male
This would work
http://www.cablejive.com/products/Un...Converter.html
http://www.cablejive.com/products/microStubz.html
but its like plugging a wire into a wire into my phone
any ideas?
EDIT:
So I made an adapter. Pics are in post #3

The ipod cable I have in my glove box charged and playede audio from my old 1st gen ipod. I have since gotten an itouch and the cable will still play audio, but wont charge the itouch. I made this adapter cable to work for my cell phone that uses micro sd for charging and a standart 3.5mm dock for audio out.
My adapter works, short of. It will play audio off my phone thru my car stereo (like the itouch) but it wont charge my phone (also like the itouch). I used the adapter to plug my phone into both my laptop and ihome docking station, and my phone WILL charge. So I think if I get an updated cable for my car stereo specific for an itouch, things should turn out just fine.
Parts used:
Ipod 30-pin "exntension cord"
standard 3.5mm headphone jack
micro usb cord
spliced open all the cables
now getting the plastic surrounding off the female connector was pretty easy, just took time and being careful, although i wasnt very careful
inside of the 30-pin connector
now using these site: it helped match the pinouts for each wire/connector
http://www.lammertbies.nl/comm/cable/USB-connector.html (usb, mini usb, micro usb)
http://pinouts.ru/PortableDevices/ipod_pinout.shtml (ipod 30-pin)
http://pinouts.ru/Home/Tele35s_pinout.shtml (3.5mm jack)
plugged into my phone and its not charging
now plugged into a male ipod connector with the other end plugged into the usb drive for my computer. Now the phone is charging
ipod cable in my glove box
and audio plays, but like i said before it wont charge the phone.
Now just have to clean things up. Make some better solder points, and rewrap the wires.
