great deal or bad news

So I have a VW well had 2 sold one (an 02 GTI 1.8t and a 92 Jetta 8valve, god vw makes crap). I had a MY00 2.5RS before the GTI. I regretted selling it. It was the single stupidest thing I ever did. My g/f is tired of me talking about how great my RS was and is like "god just buy another one" First i thought the 02/03 looked cool but not as cool as the GC8's. But it's newer. And then I test drove an 05 WRX. Way fun. Not that much more money than an 02/03.... So the other day i took my jetta in to get fixed (I mentioned I had a VW still right?), so my mechanic has this MY01 RS sedan. Instant nostalgia. God it was hot. I like the coupe's better but this thing was pretty hot. I'm not sure which way I'm leaning. I kind of think I'm set on the GC. I love that body style the most. I don't need a turbo. I just like the look and feel of the GC. So basically it has the following....

Rota Tarmac II's 17" with Brand new tires not even installed yet
Original wheels with Brand new Falkens Azeins
Borla header w/ thrown 420 code
stock mid pipes and cat but some other muffler can't recall
cusco rear sway with new links all around
ground control springs with KYB AGX struts installed
Extra set of JIC coil overs
Home brew intake kit it looks K&N bolted to the TB
Stop tech rotors and pads
02 WRX seats
carbon fibre trim set
momo shift ****

The paint is spotless except for a 2 inch bumper rash on the front. He said he's going to get it resprayed before he sells it. Has records (he is my mechanic after all). It has 80k miles. Kind of a lot if you ask me but it's not really modded. He does admit that he drives fast but insists that the oil was changed every 3k miles with mobil 1 synthetic. I dunno what to think. I partly think what hell. If the engine blows up it's going to be at most 2 grand to fix and maybe just drop a EJ20 in instead. Well he wants 8500 so I'm kind of kick it around. I really like the car. I know what to expect from it having had the same car a few years ago. I'll be taking it into the dealer to get checked out. But advice would be great. Enjoy the pic's below...

cheers

So, what is the 420 code? do you need to blow a bong hit in the tailpipe, or what?

Otherwise, there may be a few things you should check out (I'll leave it to others to specify), but overall it looks like a decent deal (esp. w/ the JIC coils- those aren't new are they?). What year is it?

I believe the JIC coils are new. They aren't even installed. Not sure maybe he got them used. Either way i thought it was pretty dope. The 420 code is usually when the cat is not working correctly or there is a bum O2 sensor. Or in this case a Borla header has been installed. I've heard of a few fixes so i'm not worried so much about that. Most just the mileage and stress he might have put on the drivetrain. I think he's a decent driver. The tranny seemed like new. The syncros didn't feel like they had much wear on them at all. The clutch seemed to have some chatter but it was engaging like it had about 60 percent or so life left. It's been sitting in their shop for 2 months with no love so maybe a little chatter would be expected? After it warmed up it seemed fine. Oh it's a 2001 btw.

cheers

45 views and no comments? Guess no one anything "to specify"? Well it's the weekend. Have a good weekend all.

Talking

Yeah got the loan today for it. Told him barring something major like compression issues i'd take it. Especially since I saw one locally for 12k Getting it checked out on Wedsday. OMG it's great to be back driving a GC.

If he's your mechanic and you trust him I see no reason to not buy it. The price isn't bad, you have all the records, and you like the car.
