Anyone know of a good general home contractor?

I'm looking for a reliable, trustworthy, and all around good quality at a fair cost general contractor who can do some work in my condo. I'm thinking of redoing the kitchen (new countertop, new cabinets, new appliances, maybe new flooring), carpet, windows, updating a bathroom, and possibly adding a door to an open room. Its a medium size condo (940 sq ft) so its not gonna be anything too major. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm in the south bay: North Vally part of San Jose. Most of my friends/family have encountered the usual suspects: ones that take your money, start the job but never finish, ones that take your money, leave 10 lbs of concrete in the backyard and run away, ones that do medicore jobs at twice the price they quoted, etc.

Thanks!

I can't recommend anyone in particular, but it's a good idea to check out the status of their contractor's license here: www.cslb.com (I think that's the right one)-

STAY AWAY FROM HOMEWORKS, aka kitchenworks- and have been advised to stay clear of contractors installing purchases from places such as sears, home depot, and lowes. Good luck... ahahahahhahahah
